Socrates Viegas

I am a Computer Science student with a strong drive to harness technology's power in solving real-world challenges. My technical journey began with independently tackling projects like programming a Lego Mindstorm robot to solve a Rubik's cube, and has since expanded through collaborative efforts with AWS and the BBC, where I gained valuable insights into practical tech applications.

Outside of my academic studies, I devote my time to developing my technical capabilities through personal projects, online coursework, and hands-on experience in full-stack development. Currently, I am deepening my understanding of the MERN stack (MongoDB, Express, React, Node), with the aim of building dynamic applications and positioning myself for the future opportunities in web development and entrepreneurship.

Looking ahead, I am particularly interested in the convergence of computer science and electronic engineering, with a focus on creating AI and robotic solutions in the healthcare industry. • AWS Software Development Project, 01/01/21, 05/01/21, Collaborated with a small team on an AWS-hosted project to develop a software solution supporting youth mental health during the COVID-19 pandemic, integrating features for engagement and community connection. Utilised AWS tools to enhance functionality and scalability; team won Best Presentation and Best Overall awards, and I received the Best Reflection award for my personal contributions.
• BBC Young Reporter Project, 03/01/20, 04/01/20, Participated in a BBC career insight program, visiting the BBC News headquarters and exploring various departments like news radio, and talk shows to gain a behind-the-scenes understanding of global media operations. Met with professionals, including Nick Owen, who shared career insights and challenges, inspiring me to develop my skills and pursue my career goals with confidence.
• AWS Digital Marketer Project, 11/01/19, 02/01/20, Developed and executed a digital marketing strategy for a software application, utilizing targeted ads, social media campaigns, and audience segmentation to maximize reach within a virtual budget. Leveraged data analytics to refine the campaign for optimal performance, gaining hands-on experience in strategic digital marketing and advertising.
