I enjoy keeping myself busy, and as a mum of two young boys, I am always kept busy. I previously cared for both my parents before they passed in 2019 and 2023. I have held various jobs over the years, primarily in the bar and retail industries. In 2018, I decided to pursue a career in higher education. I attended Coatbridge College studying the Access to Nursing course, which then enabled me to attend UWS for my nursing degree. During my time in Higher Education, I developed my critical thinking, my study skills, and increased awareness of academic writing, enabling me to meet deadlines. team working skills, leadership skills, as well as my communication skills. These programmes also helped me build positive relationships with classmates, lecturers, patients, and colleagues.
At college, I have taken part in fundraising activities, we have raised money for The Scottish Association for Mental Health (SAMH) at a Halloween event, and we also took part in the 6k Santa Dash in December 2018. These extracurricular activities have improved my organisational skills and helped develop professional working relationships with staff.
In my spare time, I enjoy attending the gym, watching TV and reading. I am an official fundraiser/volunteer for The Beatson Cancer Charity, Glasgow, which involves attending events such as football matches and bag packing. As a result, I have seen firsthand what vital funds can do for the patients and staff. I find this enriching and love being part of such a passionate team.
I have organised and completed an 865-mile walk around Scotland, from Dingwall to Coatbridge, covering 42 football stadiums in 15 days, walking up to 66miles per day, raising £15,000 for Ronald McDonald House Glasgow as well as The Beatson Cancer Charity. This shows great resilience and perseverance. Being away from my family was difficult, but this experience helped me become a strong-willed,determined person, an attribute I wish my own children to have.
During my time at University, I participated in various placements that provided extensive experiences working in acute and community settings, alongside a multidisciplinary team.
