Clinical Scientific Work

• To administer radiopharmaceuticals intravenously to patients for diagnostic purposes in line with ARSAC, IR(ME)R, and local radiation protection policies.
• Perform wide range of PET/CT diagnostic and research scans using appropriate radiopharmaceuticals such as F18 FDG, F18 PSMA, Ga68 PSMA and Ga68 Dotatoc, and protocols.
• Preparation and dispensing of radiopharmaceuticals under aseptic conditions.
• To carry out specialist aseptic cleaning of hot lab
• Strictly follow departmental SOPs, protocols, and ALARA principles for safe, compliant imaging.
• Responsible for Quality Assurance checks on PET/CT scanner, KARL100 dispensing machine, and Capintec dose calibrator in accordance with departmental QA program and report any deviation from expected results to Medical Physics. Undertake action to rectify deviation as appropriate and document action taken in required log.
• Ensure safe use and maintenance of highly specialist imaging equipment, to adhere to all local safety procedures and report all equipment faults in accordance with fault reporting process and liaise with line managers to ensure timely rectification or removal of equipment from service if necessary.
• Accurate record keeping documenting all radioactive delivery, dispensing, injecting, and waste activities within unit.
• Ensuring radiation safety is maintained with regular recorded environmental monitoring, management of controlled area, and correct use of PPE/personal monitoring.
• Responsibility for stock checking consumables and ensuring correct levels are maintained, including emergency care items, and maintaining accurate monthly records.
• Give appropriate radiation protection advice to patients and clinical staff
• Use PACS, RIS, CRIS, and radio pharmacy databases for accurate imaging, reporting, and data entry.
• Handle all radiation sources and equipment safely, following IRR17, COSHH, and contamination control guidelines.
• Identify and report risks, safety breaches, or equipment failures via RADAR.
• To always observe confidentiality of patients’ records and Data Protection Act.
• Justify and vet F18 FDG request forms

• Preparation and dispensing of radiopharmaceuticals under aseptic conditions.

• Demonstrated excellent manual dexterity when handling small amounts of radioactive material reducing risk of contamination.

• 40 hours/week, always flexible to cover weekends and public holidays. Duties and responsibilities include;

Clinical Scientific Work

• Commissioning, calibration, radiation safety, accuracy and QC of all Nuclear Medicine (NM) equipment in radiopharmaceutical laboratory (Curiementor 3 Dose calibrator), scan room (Mediso Anyscan Dual head SPECT and whole-body digital gamma camera system) in accordance with QA procedures.
• Performing daily and weekly QA of gamma camera and dose calibrator using Co-57, Cs-137, Co-57 flood source and Tc-99m.
• Receiving, checking that generator indicated on box and documentation is meant for department and hospital and is consistent with what has been ordered, unpacking, checking package for any signs of damage or radiation leakage using handheld radiation monitor, placement of generator in generator safe.
• Ensure that consumable stock levels are monitored and maintained.
• Elution of Tc-99m generator entering all details on generator log sheet. Performing quality control tests of eluate. Record all QC results on generator worksheet.
• Preparing of radionuclide by selecting appropriate kit for requested for nuclear scan. Checking any special requirements and circumstances such as paediatrics studies, dynamic studies, disease states requiring alternative methods.
• Radiolabeling of kits, entering details on kit record, label all lead pots containing generator eluate to indicate radionuclide compound (pertechnetate), activity, time and date, performing chromatography for radiopharmaceuticals to check for radiochemical purity.
• Calculating paediatric doses as indicated SOP for Calculation of Paediatric Radiopharmaceutical Doses.
• Cannulating, administration of radiopharmaceuticals to patients and imaging patients for studies such as bone scans, renograms, thyroid and parathyroid scans, lymphoscintigraphy, sentinel lymph node mapping. Providing imaging services in theatre.
• Working with NM physicist to optimize, improve and troubleshoot acquired images.
• Drafting, reviewing and updating various departmental administrative SOPs/documents and policies related to appropriate safe and therapeutic use of radiation including informed consent forms as member of NM Quality Management Committee
• Co-leader with NM Physician as part of team hosting IAEA QUANUM audit staff
• Attending consult meetings with NM Physician to provide simplified explanations regarding patient treatment/imaging for patients to comprehend process and make appropriate decisions about their care including signing of consent forms.
