In my three years working as a Band 5 nurse, I carried out a range of clinical and patient care duties, including:

• Performing venepuncture on patients to support diagnostic procedures. Assisted in setting up intravenous cannulation for patient treatments.
• Managed and monitored NG and PEG tubes whilst maintaining precise and up-to-date patient records on HIVE
• Supported and assisted distressed patients and their families through clear, compassionate communication during challenging times
• Tested glucose and administered insulin injections.
• Administered scheduled medications and therapies intravenously, rectally, orally, subcutaneously and intramuscular injections while overseeing pain management plans.
• Managed patient discharges, providing relevant follow-up care advice with required prescriptions and medication.
• Monitored and recorded vital signs, reporting any abnormalities promptly in fast paced clinical environments
• Performed wound care and changed dressings using infection control procedures
• Assisted with mobility, hygiene, and daily living activities
• Recognised and responded promptly to clinical deterioration and emergencies, maintaining a calm and professional approach under pressure
• Delivered end-of-life care by conducting thorough assessments and implementing tailored care interventions
• Used clinical equipment such as ECG machines, infusion pumps, and oxygen therapy devices
• Collaborated with multidisciplinary teams to deliver holistic care and communicate effectively with patients, families, and the team

Over the course of almost two years as a care social worker, my core responsibilities included:

• Assisted patients with safe mobilisation
• Engaged with patients experiencing confusion, offering reassurance and attentive listening

• Assessed skin integrity, implemented pressure area care, and accurately documented all interventions, including patient repositioning
• Prepared meals according to individual dietary requirements, promoting good nutrition.
• Assisted patients with activities of daily living, including dressing, feeding, toileting, and personal hygiene, while promoting independence and maintaining dignity, comfort, and safety
