With over 20 years experience in local government, I understand the complexity of progression and development within this environment. My career has been diverse and includes an extensive period of time with Bournemouth Borough Council's IT department working in the parameters of ITIL across numerous teams including IT hardware and software procurement, asset management throughout its lifecycle including start up and progression of a CMDB and production of data analytics for Service Heads using Power BI. Over the years, this knowledge was key in understanding and maximising the use of CRM tools to maximise income, efficiencies and customer experience. I also spent time on the Change Advisory Board in the role of Configuation Asset Co-ordinator.

I am continously learning and studying new methods to improve my skillset having been fortunate enough to work alongside extremely competent and knowledgeable managers over my career. I have built many strong relationships within the Council and believe I have gained respect from my colleagues with regards to my work ethic, ability to meet deadlines and provide consistent, reliable information on which strong business cases can be built.

Key Tasks


1. Manage, develop and deliver a range of facilities, projects, activities and initiatives.

  • Develop business opportunities within leisure facilities in accordance with corporate policy.

  • Maximise business development opportunities by creating solutions to income generation through the development of facilities, programmes, events and activities.

3. Proactively source external funding for investment.

  • Identify external funding sources and submit relevant bids.

4. Proactive engagement with Stakeholders

  • Support the Head of Service in developing productive relationships with key community representatives.
  • Act as an ambassador for the Leisure Services Team, representing it and the Council at external meetings and events.

5. Lead and Manage the Business Development Team

  • Responsible for appointments, appraisals, training, performance and discipline of the staff in the Senior Management Team.
  • Oversee the preparation of risk assessments, policies and procedures relating to the effective staff management of events, activities and programmes.
  • Encourage and promote innovation, ideas and initiatives and create a culture which is proactive and enthusiastic for improvement and change.

Led the team to Award Winning Success:

  • Leisure Centre of the Year South West (Prestige Awards) for 4 consecutive years.
  • Finalists at the National Fitness Awards for 3 consecutive years for Local Authority Leisure Centre of the Year, Best Marketing Campaign and Community Leisure Centre of the Year.


Successful procurement of c£600k in capital funding:

  • £120k - Refurbishment of 3G Pitches. Project completed July 2023.
  • £479k - Pool plant room upgrade to increase efficiencies, improve environmental sustainability and reduce utility expenditure. Project scheduled for completion December 2023.


Major Centre Improvements Completed including tender process, procurement, project management, implementation of new service and facility management:

  • £25k procured for new soft play installation in 2021 which has already recovered expenditure.
  • £43k investment in new sports hall floor - works scheduled for December 2023.
  • £25k investment to improve accessibility completed.
  • £80k invested in new CRM tool and access system to improve customer experience.
  • £100k equipment upgrade completed.


Other

  • Created and refined business operating model for Two Riversmeet Leisure Complex, currently performing within the upper quartile in the UK. BCP due to onboard three further centres within the conurbation to mirror this model in October 2024.
  • Reduced council subsidy by over £150k per annum, 2 years ahead of forward plan.
  • 96% staff retention rate during management period.
  • 69% of staff upskilled / cross trained to increase resilience and protect against single points of failure.
