I am an experienced Secondary teacher of English of twenty-four years. Whilst most of my career has been spent in the classroom environment, for the last two years I have been employed as a one-to-one tutor. I am a reflective practitioner and am looking to develop my career away from mainstream education.
In this role I provide bespoke 1-1 tutoring sessions for individual students with a variety of needs. These range from new starters who need to be brought up-to-speed on GCSE texts, students returning after exclusion or other absences, or any other students that teachers in the English department think would benefit from individual tuition.
I started working as an English tutor for one evening per week at the Derby North franchise, then moved to the Ashfield centre in October 2022, where I currently am employed. I provide bespoke English tuition for a wide range of students from KS2-KS5.
I have been employed as an examination marker for the GCSE EDUQAS English Literature Component 1 qualification for two years (2024 and 2025.) The contract is for the examination period of each year.
During my 22 years service at Swanwick Hall School, I taught English Language and English Literature across Key Stages 3-5. As well as an academic role, I took on the pastoral position of Deputy Head of Sixth Form in 2003 and was in-post until 2014. I held a full-time teaching commitment until 2019, when I moved to 0.8.
I am an excellent communicator and can use my initiative effectively to liaise with other teaching staff to create bespoke lessons and resources for targeted students I can work efficiently to deadlines and use current technology to enhance my practise
