Current Role & responsibilities

  • I manage with my colleague a team of QA/QC engineers, currently based within the warship business unit.
  • Supporting with PRE & post welding inspections, welding surveillance & technical guidance, ensuring welding compliance.
  • I manage the control of work process & risk assessments to support safe working practices for the team, raising any issues & working on resolutions to ensure everyone goes home safe every day!
  • Developing the members of my team, identifying areas for improvement & supporting with guidance/ training where appropriate.
  • Making sure the team are all assisting with every task, giving the opportunities to gain experience & knowledge.
  • The team we have on warships have been involved with the implementation of the BS EN ISO 3834-2 comprehensive quality requirements, gaining accreditation on two occasions & leading the way with our surveillance programme & continuous improvements for welding activities.
  • Working daily on WeldEye for multiple projects, making sure the jobs are fully captured & the WIS is adhered to with the correct NDT extent achieved.
  • I also support with revoking jobs to support the projects/hub, with carrying out amendments when required.
  • Carrying out final sign off on WeldEye, making sure jobs are compliant ready for customer approval.
  • Assisting with inspection issues for QA/QC & NDT engineers, giving technical guidance & practical solutions.
  • Reviewing radiographs & UT reports, discussing defects with NDT personnel & investigating causes & prevention.
  • Supplying the projects with repair methods to give the customer assurance that requirements are met, with product safety.
  • Also supporting my senior’s where possible, willing to support new initiatives & take on other tasks required by the weld department.
  • Managing & running high level weekly meetings with stakeholders & building strong customer relationships.
