I am a motivated and detail-driven Product Design Engineering student at Cardiff Metropolitan University, seeking a one-year industry placement (September 2026 – May 2027) to gain hands-on experience within a professional design team. I am eager to further develop my technical skills, learn from experienced designers, and acquire the practical industry knowledge necessary to confidently advance my career in product design.
My hands-on experience at Dextra Lighting exposed me to large-scale manufacturing, assembly processes, and quality control within a fast-paced production environment. Working closely with commercial lighting systems allowed me to study products in detail, understand common manufacturing errors, and gain practical insight into materials, tolerances, and design-for-manufacture principles. These experiences have shaped my problem-solving approach and strengthened my ability to design efficient, robust, and production-ready products.
Through my degree, the software skills I have developed include Fusion 360, KeyShot 11, Onshape, SolidWorks, PowerPoint, Word, and many more. I also have experience in rapid prototyping, model-making, and user-centred design research. I enjoy working collaboratively and bring a positive, reliable, and solutions-focused attitude to team environments.
By combining my technical skills, manufacturing awareness, and enthusiasm for collaborative design, I am confident I can contribute meaningful value to your team while continuing to grow as a designer.
A-Level Project – Chapel Lectern
Brief:
Design a religious statement for a chapel that is meaningful and respectful, either inclusive of multiple faiths or focused on one. The design should be visible to those seeking it, yet subtle enough to blend into the space without overpowering it.
What I Learned:
This project taught me to design with purpose and restraint, understanding that simplicity can be more powerful than obvious design. I learned to consider user emotions, culture, and context, and to create designs that sit naturally within their environment. This strengthened my ability to balance function, respect, and user experience.
48-Hour Project – Brass Sculpture
Brief:
Design and manufacture a brass sculpture within 48 hours using wax modelling and the tree-casting process, focusing on form, precision, and craftsmanship.
What I Learned:
Working under time pressure improved my ability to develop ideas quickly and make confident design decisions. I gained hands-on experience with materials, learned how small choices affect outcomes, and strengthened my skills in problem-solving, iteration, and attention to detail
University - Cardiff Metropolitan
Brief:
Design protective, noise-cancelling earbuds for construction workers, balancing comfort, safety, and sound quality for long days in loud environments.
What I Learned:
This project strengthened my ability to design user-focused, ergonomic products under real-world constraints. I improved my CAD skills through iterative form development and learned how thoughtful design can protect users while enhancing everyday comfort and performance.
Dyson-Inspired Speaker
Brief:
Design a minimal, high-tech speaker inspired by Dyson's engineered aesthetic, using a cylindrical form and central acoustic channel to enhance sound projection.
What I Learned:
I learned the importance of research-led design by analysing Dyson's forms, materials, and design language. This project developed my ability to translate brand identity into functional products, creating designs that feel cohesive, purposeful, and technically considered.
Integrated Bike Light
Brief:
Design a lightweight, aerodynamic bike light integrated into the stem, offering intuitive, glove-friendly controls and removable torch functionality.
What I Learned:
This project improved my confidence in balancing form, function, and usability. Working around the bike's structure strengthened my CAD modelling and taught me the value of iteration, patience, and attention to detail, reinforcing how strong designs evolve through testing and refinement.
