I am a highly ambitious and motivated student at the University of Leeds, where I am a Politics and International Studies (POLIS) School Representative. I have developed my leadership, communication, and advocacy skills in this position, working with faculty and advocating on behalf of students to improve the academic experience.
My experience as a Young Professionals Ambassador, where I produce content, network, meet, run events, and assist in webinars about marketing and entrepreneurship, illustrates my interest in career development and commercial awareness. I am also a BeComAware Ambassador to promote knowledge of the business and core industry trends.
I have also gained exposure to immigration law, policy, and global mobility through Fragomen’s Immigration School, where I engaged in immersive workshops and case studies exploring legal regulations, recruitment strategies, and responsible business practices, particularly in inclusion and diversity in law.
I have held leadership roles in the School Council, the Sports Council and have led the MUN Society, training students for conferences. I established an English Club as a Creative and Literacy Leader to improve the literacy and skills of students. Additionally, through ten years of debating and public speaking, I have proudly represented my school in numerous competitions.
Named amongst the ‘High Flyers’ for two years in a row, I have participated in academic research, presenting papers for Children’s Rights and Women’s Rights. My passion for law, international relations, and activism powers my motivation to go above and beyond in my work and educational experiences.
The opportunity to complete a work experience placement with NatWest Group Legal gave me a profound and extremely valuable understanding of the practice of in-house legal work at a large corporate bank. My contacts with Retail & Wealth Legal and Commercial & Institutional Legal helped me to understand how much legal professionals work with the company to help manage risk issues, maintain regulatory compliance, and offer value-adding assistance. The team's strong emphasis on ESG initiatives and responsible banking for Retail & Wealth Legal really stood out to me. Observing an internal team meeting gave me an idea of how collaborative and solution-focused their work is. The assessment centre exercise on settlement agreements, which taught me how to recognise important legal risks and communicate them in understandable, useful terms, is one of my highlights. The group pitch for a hypothetical "AI bank," in which we were tasked with providing client-centred, commercially viable legal solutions in a creatively limited setting, was equally worthwhile. My time with Commercial & Institutional Legal provided me with equally insightful viewpoints on managing complex business alliances. Learning about NDAs and fee agreements demonstrated how risk mitigation techniques can be found in even the most commonplace documents. Legal analysis, articulating complex issues into clear, risk-based advice frameworks, economically motivated articulation for legal strategy alignment, and a nuanced grasp of communication by presenting complex legal arguments in simple language are just a few of the essential professional skills I developed during this placement. I gained more self-assurance in my ability to work cooperatively with diverse, cross-functional teams and in applying legal thinking in innovative ways to solve practical problems.
