Patient communicator adapts strategies to suit different situations. Maintains impartiality and objectivity for reliable, high-quality clinical guidance. Offers rich background in record-keeping, active listening and rapport building.
• Assist generally with patient care and assist with clinical emergencies • Take histories/ascertain problems • Perform clinical examinations (under supervision and with consent of the patient)
• Perform diagnostic and therapeutic procedures such as phlebotomy, IV cannulation, ECG and other clinical procedures as deemed appropriate and subject to training and experience
• Accompany consultants on ward rounds: present clinical cases and assist with collation of results and patient documentation generally
• Act as assistant to a registered healthcare professional for minor surgery and other procedures, including assisting in theatre.
• Write and maintain medical records.
• Communicate with other health care professionals.
• Review investigations/correspondence but not to action unless agreed with supervising clinician.
• Communicate with patients re appointments, care plans and test results under direction of a registered healthcare professional
• Support quality improvement activity such as audit, new healthcare initiatives, QOF, and medicines optimisation review
