I had the honour of attending the University of Oxford for the Brilliant club's graduation. I was given the opportunity to partake in weekly sessions over the course of 4 months with a PhD tutor to write a 2500-word essay on a question which was on the broad topic of bacteria. Specifically, I chose the use of AI algorithms as my main approach, these narrow down thousands of potential chemicals down to just a handful. My research focused on a deadly species of bacteria Acinetobacter baunomanni ,commonly seen in hospitals and nursing homes. With the help of AI algorithms, a new superbug antibiotic has been found which can erase the issues of pathogenic bacteria in contagious areas amongst us, specifically hospitals. The completed essay had been marked using University standards, and I was pleased to have achieved a grade of a 2:2, which is an excellent standard to be reaching when studying A levels. Along with having an insight into the university lifestyle, I was able to conduct independent research on a specific topic and learnt principles of referencing, specifically Harvard style.
