Shujin Li

I had a wide range of interests, including reading, swimming and badminton. I love listening to music and have been learning to play musical instruments. I once studied clarinet and served as the clarinet player in the school band. I am currently learning to play the guqin, a Chinese musical instrument.

Since secondary school, history and humanities have been my favourite subject. Singapore and Australia are multi-ethnic and multi-cultural societies, and I have been to these places sequentially during my high school and tertiary education period. I took the initiative to communicate with my classmates and teachers from different ethnic backgrounds.I am currently enrolling the Master Degree of History of Arts and Archaeology at School of Oriental and African Studies, University of London, UK.

Beyond the class, I have expanded my exploration and interest in topics related to the history and culture through university society’s activities or other social works.

For example, On 12th October 2018, as a member of the University of Sydney Chinese Culture Society, I conducted a lecture named Chinese Chair week 10: Buddhism in China. In this lecture, I explained to the audience the history of the transmission of Buddhism from India to Central Asia and China via Silk Roads and how Buddhism was sinicisd throughout Chinese history in English with my self-made PowerPoint slides. From September to December 2022, I had my internship placement in the Scientific and Educational Research Department of the Sichuan Museum in China and worked in Deyang Museum from June to September 2023.

During my leisure time after work and studies, I like to research the historical and cultural elements used in different pop culture works and discuss them with friends around me, such as film and television dramas such as "The Longest Day in Chang'an (2019)"and popular games such as "Genshin Impact" and "Arknights", For the elderly, these popular cultural media can allow them to understand young people's new interpretation and inheritance of history and culture, and eliminate the gap between them and the younger generation. On the contrary, it can arouse young people's interest in history and traditional culture, thereby stimulating their interpretation and repackaging of traditional culture, and thinking about how to use modern technology to promote traditional culture. (such as Hanfu festival, animation, games, etc.). In this way, the generation gap between the younger generation and the older generation of cultural inheritors can be shortened, thereby better inheriting and promoting the history and culture.
