Shem Morgan

Summary

Shem Morgan is a multidisciplinary ceramics educator, glaze technician and process-based sculptor based in London.
He works primarily in traditionalist methodologies using raw clays and bespoke glaze recipes, focusing on the context and continuum of historical ceramic vessels. The silhouettes of his vessels are a balance of distinct and museological attentiveness, with an understanding and acceptance for the inherent unknowns found amongst ancient pottery firing techniques.
Experiential learning is seated at the core of his practice; this is persistent in historical alignments with archaeological finds, and the reproduction of theorized methodologies.
Through practical mentorship with other historical potters, he has developed a role as an active educator. Through this cross generational engagement, he hopes to maintain these scarce traditions, and share with future potters who can enrich themselves within this heritage craft.
