Summary

  • I am a highly effective communicator and this is evident in my day-to-day communication with staff, pupils and parents. My role as PT Support for Learning demands excellent interpersonal skills as well as empathy, discretion and compassion. I believe I have all of the skills and qualities that are needed for this role and demonstrate them on a daily basis.
  • I am part of the Pupil Support team and my remit is an extremely pastoral one. As part of this team, I go far beyond what is required of me when dealing with vulnerable pupils and parents. I work with a wide variety of ASN pupils, including those on the autistic spectrum, and have built up excellent relationships with these pupils. The ASN base very much operates with an “open door” policy and, as a result, pupils feel relaxed and safe when spending time there. I have provided a “safe haven” for a large number of our most vulnerable pupils and work effectively with my team to provide ongoing support for them.
  • I am confident in the delivery of in-service to staff and have delivered several successful twilight courses over the past two years. I have also been invited to speak at CALL Scotland conferences and SAM group meetings, in order to demonstrate our authority-leading innovative approaches to ICT interventions for ASN pupils and my background as an English teacher assists in my confident articulation.
  • I have built up strong relationships with parents over the past two years. I have very regular contact with parents of pupils in my care and meet with them on a termly basis to discuss GIRFME/CSP targets. I speak regularly to parents on an informal basis over the phone and have built up trust and confidence as a result of this approach. I have been able to win the support of some of our most disengaged parents and my gentle, caring approach has had a large part to play in this.
