Part-Time Online Clothing Listing Volunteer

Oxfam
Skipton, North Yorkshire
08.2024 - Current

During my university holidays, I worked as an online clothing lister for Oxfam as a volunteer. My duty was to gather and upload details and photographs of clothing to be published on the Oxfam online store, where they were sold and the proceeds were used to establish aid for poverty. In my earlier months, my listed clothing generated sales that assisted in providing relief for victims of floods in Pakistan. I enjoyed the volunteering work, being efficient with my listings and uploading several clothes to the online store, in which I was complimented for the high quality of my work.

Skills

  • Leadership
  • I approach leadership in groups with a refined, democratic style Whilst I aim to be an approachable, confident leader, I hold my strength in the involvement of my team members For university projects, I tend to approach each task in a collaborative style - gaining input from my team members to building engagement Though conflict of opinions regarding each task is likely to arise, I am able to take charge, being able to compromise and satisfy both parties

  • Teamwork
  • Despite my leadership qualities, I am still an avid team player I complete delegated work to the best of my ability, and use my knowledge to assist fellow team-mates with their work - if they are struggling This is best displayed in my expedition on Mount Snowdon, where I collaborated with my parents to summit the mountain and raise money to deliver aid for those affected by the Pakistani floods I helped assist the summit over rough terrain, guide through poor visibility, and successfully reach the peak

  • Problem Solving
  • I am able to critically analyse and deduce solutions to problems When there is a difficulty in a task, I overcome it by providing an alternate method - whether it is to fix errors in code, faulty wiring or simply to execute a task I enjoy challenging myself with difficult puzzles, in order to better increase my awareness and knowledge on future problems, should they arrive

  • Communication

When in group activities, or in general, I always strive to present myself in a clear and concise manner I will convey difficulties, present work, and deliver information towards other members of the group In university group projects, such as our most recent autonomous robot project, communication had to be frequent and concise; helping fix issues, for example malfunctioning sensors; designing and using the feedback of our members to model our chassis; and ultimately assembling the robot

  • Enthusiasm
  • I am greatly enthusiastic towards opportunities that I enjoy I pursue these opportunities - for personal or academic benefit - and strive for my involvement Prior to my education in Lancaster university, I had visited my cousin in the Netherlands, where I shadowed him at Delft University of Technology, where I displayed my dedication into exploring the engineering field by observing his work, projects, and general life I had witnessed and partaken in experiments to make a fully autonomous car, met with a company experimenting with LiDAR technology, and explored the workshops around the university All of these only furthered my enthusiasm into the engineering field

  • Creativity
  • I am an avid creative thinker From a young age, I had a keen designing instinct, which was supported by building and experimenting with several LEGO sets This passion furthered into my adult years, where I enjoy assembling LEGO Mindstorms and programming them I form a lot of concepts in my mind and enjoy writing - mostly fictional - settings and stories to pursue these thoughts as I envision them

  • IT Skills
  • I am proficient with the use of computers and electronic devices I efficiently utilise Microsoft products in the production of documents, such as PowerPoints, Word documents, or spreadsheets As an advanced skill, I am confident with coding in some programming languages - Python and C for example I am familiar with the technology behind the electronics I use, and how to troubleshoot technical problems, ranging from coding errors, to basic command line coding to repair corrupt files
