Work history

Counsellor

self employed
LEICESTER, Region
04.2022 - Current

I decide to become self employed in April 2022 after qualifying as counsellor. I also work within the NHS in mental health and I have done so for over 32years. Working as a self employed counsellor gives me the autonomy to set my hours outside of my full time NHS role. I am registered with the National counselling society and the BACP and work within there ethical frameworks. Completing a vast amount of CPD such as 30hrs online counselling and 30hrs with the university of Derby in Autism and ADHD. I believe that undertaking CPD makes me a more informed practitioner in these areas. Working within the NHS I have recently completed the decider skills training and as a mandatory compliance I also undertake my core training. This makes me up to date with safeguarding, clinical governance, mental health capacity act . Which allows me an understanding within these areas and helps me to risk assess accordingly. My NHS compliments my counselling role and I am a confident empathic, congruent, non judgemental counsellor. I work within the person centred approach with my clients and I am qualified to level 4 diploma also holding a HEC in psychodynamic counselling from leicester university. Within my counselling role I worked in a voluntary capacity at Leicester counselling center allowing me to work with clients from many different cultural and religious background. I work with clients from age 14 to adulthood and have worked with a lot of neurodivergent clients and younger people.
