Sean Callan

I am writing to express my interest in a part time Rugby coach position. I am PE University student going into year 1 and I feel like this would be a good experience for me to gain some first hand teaching in schools. With George Heriots being the right first step for myself.

I have practical experience of teaching in primary schools through my sports leadership award and S1-3 by volunteering during my free periods in school. During my sports leadership award I was on a 10 week placement in a local primary school. Where I taught P7's basketball and P2's Football. This taught me to create engaging learning environments for all pupils. I understand how effective communication, leadership skills and meticulous planning are all needed for successful learning. Working with primary school students I’ve learnt to adapt to kids with special needs so they can feel included, and to support young children with encouragement and positivity to help build their emotional resilience. I’ve developed the ability to think quickly to solve problems as they arise and to be creative to engage with children with different learning styles.

Last year, I've taken on the roles of Young Sports Ambassador and Football Captain to be a positive role model for the younger generation and to develop my leadership and communication skills. I've
attended the Young Sports Ambassador conference to discuss new ways of encouraging participation in sport, and I’m enhancing my teamwork skills by collaborating with my committee to organise new events to build a happier, healthier school community this year starting with the interhouse senior football tournament and school sports fair and a S1 rugby tournament. I volunteer as a coach for the water polo club and the S1 football team, and these additional commitments have helped me improve my time management and organisational skills.

I am confident that my combination of skills, experience and dedication will make me a strong candidate to become a part of the George Heriots coaching staff. Thank you for considering me for the job and I am looking forward to the chance of being part of your team.
