Trainee Manager

Summary

How would I class myself in my previous rolls since in the RIR, Don't get me wrong I have had a few fill in jobs from then just to keep active within this time. The last 10 years in Tesco Mobile was very much like working in a tight knit unit, and I love it, but its time to move on.

From my previous training I am still, at 48 years old, a strategic thinker with strong problem solving and critical thinking skills. Proficient in identifying areas or processes that work but could be more efficient.

Finally

I'm not saying i would ever step out of company police or process

although the simple rule of

Improvise

Adapt

Overcome

can solve most problems.

Thank you for you consideration.

Work history

Trainee manager

Tesco Mobile
Banbridge, Down
09.2014 - Current
  • I started my career with Tesco Mobile in 2014 as a part time sales advisor. contently working away at my 18.25 hour contract, as this move from my previous job paid the same as 36 hours per week with no travel and allowed me greater flexibility and time at home with my Family.

  • Over the next few years I positioned myself to learn the business not just from my position but from the next level up. Watching and learning from my Mobile Managers and enquiring how and more importantly why processes were completed in a particular manner.

  • Each manager had a different style, but from each of their wealth of experience I was able to learn and remember most of Tesco mobiles policies, rules and regulations, plus the best way to manage a team.

  • Unfortunately or Fortunately for myself, My team had a 6 month gap in management around 2019. I personally took this opportunity to step up and lead my friends/colleagues from the front.

  • We, as a unit and looking out for and after each other, were able to maintain our position within our KPI matrix, without an appointed manager, in the top 5 positions of all stores in Northern Ireland.

  • After a new manager was appointed, I readjusted back to my pervious roll, but was asked to increased my hours to 24 hours per week, to help support the new manager in his roll as he was new to not just Tesco, But Mobile Phone shops altogether.

  • Around the end of 2019 I was personally requested by Tesco Senior Team as in the Store manager and his second in command, to apply for Tesco options program, which is their management training program.

  • I applied, was accepted, completed all of the training required, but Covid came along so I wasn't able to finish my options placement due to travel restrictions. To finish and get signed off as a manager, Tesco require you to manage a team that you haven't worked with before. Per say another Mobile shop in a different location.

  • I totally agree with this as it shows an ability to adapt to people you don't know, and can and will identify any weaknesses you may have as a leader.

  • That is my personal Experience of Tesco Mobile, what i have also gained from my time there is.
  • Look at the business processes from an untrained eye to identify and recommend areas for improvement.
  • Suggest different plans to simplify how we better served our customer base, as most people don't understand tech jargon.
  • Assisted with day-to-day operations and completed assigned management tasks, while completing management tasks without being asked, with the trust and support of my team, this would have been impossible.

Skills

  • Public relations#

  • My most recent post within Tesco Mobile has been front facing customer interactions Issues with handsets, diagnosing problems with said devices, mostly customer caused but sometimes update issues Problem solving on the spot Queries pertaining to over charges/billing issues Facebook not working/Whatapp In the application for the position something as simple as Facebook not working may seem like a trivial thing but some of our customers run businesses off of these platforms, every customer deservers your 100% attention no matter how silly it might seem to us/me

  • Marketing

As a rule when my shop is quiet, we head out into the main store to hand out leaflets, with the intention of trade driving

  • Communication skills
  • Well need I say more, communication is the key to all great and profitable businesses Without it teams languish and have no direction
