I am a very experienced Nurse with over 20 years of dedication to the profession. I started as a carer working with the elderly and disabled in the community in1999 before eventually returning to higher education and gaining a degree in Nursing at Coventry University in 2019. Since qualifying, I have worked in University Hospital Coventry and Warwickshre (UHCW) in both Respiratory, ward 30 and Infectious Diseases ward 31a. I am devoted to high standards of nursing and exemplify University Hosptial Coventry Warwickshire (UHCW) Trust Values. I am very proud to be part of the Trust that first gave the world's first Covid-19 vaccine.
In 30 and 31a, my main exposure is with respiratorily compromised patients such as Asthma, Covid and COPD patients in exacerbation. However, in working on medical wards there is a wide scope of patients including cardiac and renal. Palliative, Amber and end of life care pathways are a big part of my responsibility. Pain assessment and management is also an essential part of my role as well as medication adminstration. I have gained a wealth of knowledge and confidence in managing high dependency Covid positive patients requiring acute Non Invasive Ventilation (NIV) and lifesaving CPAP. I am trained in NIV and I am one of the most dedicated nurses on ward 30 and have not had one single sick day off work since starting with the Trust. I was one of the first nurses to have the vaccine and have had the booster. I am dedicated to infection control and prevention by donning and doffing PPE and minimising the spread of infection.
Additional training includes cannulation. Notably, ward 30 currently has 100% on the cannulation audit. I am very proud to have contributed to this significant improvement. I am also proficient in wound management and I am a tissue viability link nurse. I am truly dedicated to high standards of care and have championed nurse-led skin checks twice daily by day and night staff as well as being very hands-on in 2 hourly repositioning of bedbound patients in a bid to reduce category pressure sores. I am also a change agent by pushing for a register of signatures denoting who stocked the medication trolley at night to ensure accountability in cleaning and stocking it properly. Ward 30 actually started this improvement before it was adopted throughout the Trust.
Due to the pandemic thwarting training opportunities I have not been able to complete training on male catheterisation, spirometry, arterial blood gases, or mentoring students. However, I have requested all of these and would relish every opportunity to improve my learning. I primarily have essential skills but not all desirable skills. However, I feel I would be an asset to any team because I am honest and accountable as well as extremely hard-working and eager to learn new skills. I am truly dedicated to high standards of care and I am very efficient in both written and verbal communication with the Multi Disciplary Team, patients and relatives. I would relish the opportunity to work in New Zealand. I hope to hear from you.
Kind Regards
Sarah Terry
