PROFESSIONAL VALUE

  • Advanced level Clinical Nurse Specialist and Independent Nurse Prescriber with 36 years of NHS clinical experience delivering complex patient care across paediatrics, youth justice, community services and specialist HIV and sexual health services.
  • Practising with a high level of professional autonomy, providing comprehensive clinical assessment, diagnosis and prescribing while managing clinical uncertainty, safeguarding risk and complex patient presentations.
  • My practice demonstrates capability across the four pillars of advanced practice: clinical practice, leadership, education and research. I am committed to safe, evidence-based healthcare, service improvement and supporting colleagues to develop confident and accountable clinical practice.

Neuro development Clinical Interest

I have developed a strong interest in ADHD and neurodevelopment through both my professional work and lived experience. Earlier in my career I worked within Youth Offending Services where I carried out structured health assessments using the CHAT framework. These assessments explored physical health, mental health, substance use, developmental history and possible neurodevelopmental concerns.

Through this work I frequently encountered young people struggling with attention, impulsivity, emotional regulation and engagement with education. These unmet health needs often contributed to poor outcomes including school exclusion, disengagement from services and increased risk of re-offending. Recognising these patterns strengthened my understanding of the importance of identifying neurodevelopmental differences early and ensuring young people are referred into appropriate support pathways.

Alongside my professional experience, I was diagnosed with ADHD later in life and have supported two of my children through ADHD and autism assessments and ongoing support for over 26 years. This has given me insight into the challenges individuals and families can face when navigating healthcare and education systems.

These experiences have strengthened my interest in contributing to structured ADHD assessment and treatment pathways within a well-governed clinical service. I would welcome the opportunity to further develop my knowledge and skills in neurodevelopment services.

Professional Achievements

BASHH Conference Abstract Accepted for Publication

Lead author of an abstract accepted for presentation at the British Association for Sexual Health and HIV (BASHH) Annual Conference. The abstract titled “Not Chlamydia? Then What?” explores diagnostic reasoning in sexual health services and highlights the importance of considering alternative diagnoses when common infections are excluded. The work will be published within the HIV Medicine journal supplement and contributes to clinical discussion around improving diagnostic pathways in sexual health.

Development of Neurodevelopment Referral Pathway within Youth Offending Services

Recognised patterns of attention, impulsivity and emotional regulation difficulties in young people attending Youth Offending Services. Contributed to the development of referral pathways enabling young people to access CAMHS neurodevelopment assessment for ADHD and autism. This helped reduce barriers to assessment for a cohort of vulnerable young people who often struggle to access mainstream services.

Structured Health Assessments Using CHAT Framework

Delivered comprehensive health assessments for young people within the Youth Offending Service using the nationally recognised CHAT assessment tool. These assessments identified unmet physical health, mental health, substance use and neurodevelopmental needs, enabling targeted referrals and improved care coordination for vulnerable adolescents.

Digital Clinical Documentation Improvement (EMIS)

Developed structured EMIS templates within clinical services to standardise documentation in line with NMC professional record-keeping requirements and Royal Pharmaceutical Society prescribing competencies. These templates support consistent clinical assessment, safer prescribing decisions and improved safeguarding awareness within consultations.

Clinical Supervision and Workforce Development

Mentorship trained and provide structured supervision for student nurses, midwives and junior doctors. Support reflective practice, clinical learning and professional development through case discussion, review of clinical records and constructive feedback.

Prevention-Focused Clinical Practice

Deliver preventative healthcare interventions including HIV prevention prescribing (PrEP), vaccination programmes and health promotion. Focus on reducing disease transmission, supporting treatment adherence and improving long-term patient outcomes.
