Since leaving the Manager role I have continued to support WASPS with the admin side of the role. I am in the process of handing the admin jobs over to the Co-ordinator.
Main duties
Duties of the Deputy Manager are to be carried out in collaboration with, under the direction of, or in
support of the Setting Manager, as appropriate.
· To manage the group and undertake all the necessary duties in the absence of the Setting Manager.
· To set an example of good practice to staff at all times.
· To be responsible for providing a high quality of education and learning, ensuring that staff are properly deployed and offer appropriate stimulation and support to the children attending the setting.
· To contribute to drawing up and supervising the daily programme of Playgroup activities and events in accordance with the EYFS curriculum. To ensure that the setting’s provision meets the children’s social, emotional, physical and intellectual needs.
· To effectively supervise staff on a daily basis, ensuring that staff are properly deployed and are offering appropriate stimulation and support to children attending the setting. To be responsible for monitoring the quality of teaching; to provide information to manager in support of staff appraisal and to identify in-service training needs.
· To act as a key person to a group of up to 12 children, and to ensure their needs are reflected in the planning of routines and activities. To liaise closely with parents/carers and to build an effective relationship to ensure that each child’s needs are recognised. To support the work of other staff in their role as key person, as required.
· To promote the interests of children eligible for EYPP and children receiving Funded 2s funding in the setting. To liaise with parents to discuss areas of most need for children eligible for EYPP.
· To be responsible for implementing systems of observation and record keeping so that children's progress and achievements are effectively and regularly assessed; to monitor the effectiveness of assessment procedures.
· To ensure accurate records are properly maintained and updated across the setting, e.g. daily attendance register; accident and incident records; intimate care log etc.
· To ensure that the welfare and safety of children is promoted within the setting and that any child protection concerns are always appropriately acted upon immediately.
· To ensure that the Playgroup is a safe environment for children, staff and others, that equipment is safe, standards of hygiene are high, safety procedures are implemented at all times and fire drills are regularly practised.
· To support the Setting Manager to implement any recommendations made following regulatory inspections.
· To contribute to, be familiar with and implement all Playgroup policies and procedures, e.g. register and signing out procedures, child protection, health and safety, confidentiality, food safety, setting hygiene etc. To maintain confidentiality in relation to any information regarding the children, their families or other staff acquired as part of this role.
· To liaise closely with parents/carers, informing them about the Playgroup and its curriculum, exchanging information about children's progress and encouraging parents' involvement.
· To ensure that children attending the setting receive a balanced and healthy diet.
· To contribute to daily cleaning and maintenance tasks at the setting.
· To actively participate at team meetings, supervision meetings and appraisal meetings.
· To attend any conferences, training events or meetings appropriate to the role or as identified by the Manager or Management Committee; to keep up-to-date with current good practice.
· To undertake any other reasonable duties as directed by the Chair of the Management Committee in accordance with the setting’s business plan/objectives.
I worked as a bank Midday Supervisor so was called if they had sickness.
Duties included:
I have a son who is 12 years old so I spend my spare time with him and my partner. We have recently moved to the village so we are both settling in to a new area, although I grew up in the village.
We enjoy walking together and going on bike rallys.
