I am passionate about making a difference to people's lives through people-centred nursing and high quality research. I'm a highly empathetic person, who is able to quickly build rapport with patients or participants through excellent communication skills.
In my role as a GP nurse I work within the wider practice team to provide a range of services to patients, this includes; long term condition reviews and assessments, wound care, post-operative care, immunisations throughout the lifecourse, contraception care and learning disability support.
Working as a community nurse I cared for patients who were housebound, providing the following; catheter care, insulin and critical medication administration, end of life care, wound care, and post-operative care. I worked within a large nursing team, and was proud to be learning disability champion within the team.
This was a varied role, I worked across a number of departmental research projects, including one looking at Twitter (now X) data surrounding the Grenfell Fire Injury. This was a large data set of thousands of tweets, which were analysed using a qualitative content analysis method. I also supervised two PhD students, both of whom were new to qualitative methods, and needed support to become confident in their chosen qualitative analysis.
In this role I prepared and delivered lectures of second year undergraduate students on the Critical Health pedagogy module. I aimed to design engaging material that allowed them to bridge the gap between theory and practice. I advised students on academic progress to ensure positive results.
In this role I worked as a research assistant, for a project that analysed the media coverage of the UK General Election held in December 2019. Working as part of a coding team conducting content analysis of a variety of news media, I was required to observe strict coding deadlines, work with precision, constantly keep up with changes to the coding schedule, and step in when other coders were unable to complete their allocated media.
Employed on a University of Salford funded project which seeks to establish strong connections between industry and academics working in the field of eSports. My main role in this post is to conduct a systematic review of the literature relating to eSports and in collaboration with my line manager produce an industry-facing report. I am also being tasked with assisting in the organisation of a one day workshop to bring together academics and industry figures in eSports.
Employed on the British Heart Foundation funded B-Proact1v project, which looks at primary school children's activity, diet and screen time. My main role was to conduct a thematic analysis of 42 in-depth interviews, using Nvivo software. I collaborated with the project team on producing 2 articles for academic publication.
Working on a Wellcome Trust funded project titled 'The Digital Health Generation', which seeks to explore young people's understandings of health and wellbeing through their use of digital health technologies. Data is being collected in three distinct phases, and involves a large scale online survey, interviews and an ethnographical study of wearable technologies. My duties in the post included, research design, research management, recruitment, conducting interviews with young people, event organisation, data and policy analysis.
In this role I was required to create, deliver and examine a module of study for students undertaking a foundation degree in science and engineering. This involved careful planning to develop a cohesive and level appropriate module. Delivering content involves strong communication skills, ability to adapt to changeable teaching settings and the ability to develop activities to consolidate learning.
Working as a research assistant on the EU referendum media analysis project involved content analysis of newspaper and mainstream television news. This role required deadlines to be observed, close working with colleagues to ensure inter-coder reliability, audit trails of work completed and attention to detail.
I worked as a research fellow on the ESRC funded Space for Sharing project (part of the Emoticon series) studying trust and empathy in online environments in which drug use is discussed. My duties in this post included, research design, data collection, analysis of online material, working within a transdisciplinary team, producing accessible information for the project website, presenting research at international conferences, completing tasks to a high standard and on time.
As a bought in teacher I taught on a variety of modules across the social sciences, delivering seminars, tutorials and lectures. I taught topics including undergraduate research methods, introductory sociology, social theory for media studies and participant observation. Teaching has developed my ability to communicate clearly to different audiences, manage a varied workload and lead a group in discussion.
As part of a BBC Trust impartiality project, I was required to accurately input data into SPSS (Statistical Package for Social Sciences). This role demonstrates my ability to work as part of a larger team, my thorough nature and keen attention to detail.
This role gave me experience of working with a variety of people, academics, gatekeepers, participants, further developed my organisational skills and was another opportunity to gain experience in successful participant recruitment.
