Summary

I am a friendly and approachable individual who thrives in collaborative environments. I love learning languages and this has led to a fascination with programming languages. As a child I loved writing little programs on my dad’s computer. I wanted to work in tech, but did not know how to achieve this goal. I finally took the plunge and applied for a coding bootcamp. I get real satisfaction from solving coding problems. I love to travel, particularly solo, low-budget, and self-organised. I have explored diverse destinations, such as Sudan, Guatemala, Taiwan, Laos, Belize, Romania, and Bosnia. I also love cooking, especially if I can incorporate a gadget into the process.

  • As a Full Stack Web Developer at the School of Code, I've honed my teamwork skills through dynamic collaboration within regularly-changing teams. I can work well with different personality types and recognise and value the contribution each team member makes.
  • Utilising pair programming, effective planning, and computational thinking, I engage in daily problem-solving to overcome coding challenges and build projects using JavaScript, HTML and CSS, React, Next.js and Express.

Homeless Support Worker

  • General running of homeless shelter and supporting the residents, many of whom have complex needs (mental/physical health and addictions)
  • Due to a period of staff upheaval, we experienced several months without management. During this time, we effectively managed our own caseloads and carried out decision-making as a team
  • Many of our residents have chaotic lifestyles and this led to many extreme crisis situations. On these occasions we had to think on our feet and respond sensitively; We worked together as a team to share our knowledge and skills and have always managed to keep our clients safe.

  • IHNFA Center, Childcare Worker, 10/2008-12/2008, Organised and participated in activities with children from single-parent families. When a two-year-old joined who had to be carried like a baby, another volunteer and I decided that we would teach him every day until he could walk confidently by himself.

  • IFES, Admin Assistant, 04/2001-10/2001, Using Word Outlook and Excel, I wrote letters to donors as well as carrying out general admin tasks and answering the phone.

Coding Projects

CodeCampus Events App, 1 week, 10/2023. Collaborated within a team of six to conceptualize and develop an app aimed at streamlining networking among bootcampers, many of whom were facing challenges while organising and communicating about events. I primarily focused on setting up the back-end API using Express.js, Node.js and a Postgres database. I also helped code the frontend integration with backend. Throughout the project, we embraced the driver-navigator approach, fostering a cohesive and efficient workflow. Additionally, we implemented agile methodologies, incorporating daily stand-ups, frequent retrospectives, and a Trello board to facilitate effective task distribution and enhance overall project coordination.
