I am currently working in the assessment and Intervention team in Chichester for West Sussex County Council. I primarily work closely and in partnership with an experienced social worker and other social workers in my team. I have had the opportunity to shadow other specialist teams working in Children's services. Utilising direct and group supervision has enabled me to jointly hold cases, and work directly with families from the point of referral to completing a Child and Family Assessment. This placement offers me invaluable experience and development in meeting the PCF requirements and has furthered my abilities to qualify as a social worker.
70 day placement in the second year of my degree.
I was part of the pastoral and safeguarding team in a SEN secondary school in Stubbington. I was allocated cases, children who required interventions to help change behaviour and promote their wellbeing. This involved direct work with children, their parents, the school and other agencies. Person centred, solution focussed and strength based approaches were foundational in delivering my interventions, as part of the key ethos of the school. I worked with children with a variety of special needs and levels of communication and processing abilities. This placement offered me a great deal of learning and experience, the direct work with children developed my understanding of disabilities and highlighted the importance of working in partnership, and the positive results that can occur in children's lives.
