KBR Engineering Work Experience July 2025
Was introduced to 7 different disciplines of engineering over 5 days (mechanical, electrical, civil, structural, piping, communication, energy). Designed and prototyped using CAD, a feasible plate heat exchanger system for a milk pasteurisation facility to an audience of engineers and the CEO - won first prize for best presentation and best solution. Worked with senior engineers in activities, solving energy problems, rerouting pipelines and analysing load distribution when considering what the best material was for a new project.
Imperial College London shadowing placement May 2025
Shadowed an Imperial college london PhD student for a day learning about the use of neutrino detection to detect the existence of dark matter in the universe (using pions, kaons and other bosons and the way they behave in space). Attended a seminar where new engineering processes were being implemented at CERN to increase collision rates (high energy neutrino magnetisers).
Spectris Engineering Firm Work Experience August 2025
Participated in an online session with Malvern Panalytical where we were shown different facilities and learnt how niche, technical machines were used by specialists to perform specialist tests for their companies.
Discussed, researched and wrote a paper on designing a vehicle capable of driving on lava, considering different materials and their advantages, cost, and design (peer reviewed).
Researched how the Osprey works technically and used Imperial’s facilities and skills I gained from the Imperial Maker Challenge, I learned, planned, 3D modelled and prototyped a working V-22 Osprey tiltrotor system at their biweekly maker graduate sessions.
Designed a possible EMG-integrated drone technology called ‘Mydrones’, allowing for rapid medical aid in emergencies.
Learnt how to design and programme drones using a custom IDE and successfully programmed one to flip and do technical manoeuvres. Advanced past the given task and managed to code a controller system so the drone could be moved using keyboard inputs as commands.
Designed, made and tested a metal beam to see how long its integrity held under load. Analysed load distribution and the benefits of different configurations in CAD - decided on an I-beam which was the strongest among the group.
Placed 2nd in this 3 month intensive engineering programme.
Achieved Gold and was 3rd best in the year group.
Voted best speaker in my school and got to the finals to represent Ealing Borough.
