  • April 2016–2018 – Completed apprenticeship at Fairfield Control Systems.
  • 2018-2020 - Started role as a design engineer.
  • December 2020 – Present.


Responsibilities:

  • Collaborated with lead project engineers or served as technical lead, managing projects from contract initiation to closeout.
  • Developed design specifications, hardware and software designs, and detailed technical documentation.
  • Commissioning of projects.
  • Coordinated with cross-functional teams to ensure successful project delivery.
  • Mentored new apprentices, training them in engineering software, including AutoCAD, electrical drawing tools, and PLC programming platforms (Rockwell, Siemens, Mitsubishi).


Key Projects & responsibilities:


Tomnahurich Swing Bridge ,

A full mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic upgrade. This project required the design, installation, and commissioning of an MCC and a new HMI.


Cairnbaan swing bridge

Received a full mechanical and electrical upgrade, with the removal of the bridge hydraulics. This project required the design, installation, and commissioning of an MCC, a new HMI, and actuators to move the bridge jacks and wedges.


Meadowgate Sluice, Rotherham.

Design, install, and commission a new bespoke MCC. The new gate is operated by two drive systems with speed regulation and an over-torque facility in place, each with the capability of providing 100% of the required torque in the event of failure.


Wixoe pumping station.

Software design and commissioning of a PLC and HMI. The station comprises four main transfer 3.3kV pumps, two 400V pumps, and associated plant equipment.

Graduate Engineer

My role as a graduate engineer at nmcn is to move between the three main departments of the business: Projects, Design, and the Commercial team.

  • As part of the projects department, my main responsibilities were supporting site commissioning, managing resources, and delivering essential client documentation.
  • As part of the design team my responsibilities were to design single-line diagrams, termination diagrams, and cable block documents, along with MEICA schedules, including instrument, valve, load, drive, and cable schedules.
  • In the Commercial team, assisted site teams with subcontract orders and managed Cost-to-Complete (CTC) assessments.


Key Projects and Responsibilities


  • Colburn, Bridlington & Sutton STW : Assisted with commissioning, created pre-commissioning and commissioning documentation.
  • East Cowick & Snaith Flood Schemes : Supported installation and commissioning, organized site teams and subcontractors, and produced pre-commissioning and commissioning documentation.
  • East Ness Detailed Design : Created electrical drawings, including single-line, block cable, and termination diagrams, along with MEICA schedules.
  • Esholt Conveyor System : Designed refurbishment and upgrades to the conveyor system.
  • P2P Sites : Developed single-line, block cable, and termination diagrams for small pumping stations in West Yorkshire; completed land referencing forms and presented project updates to Yorkshire Water.
