During my time as a telecommunications engineer I learned multiple core skills that will stick with me for life, many of these include a high level of responsibility for my work and actions and to take careful consideration into even the smallest tasks at hand. Some of the skills I learned include, fibre optic splicing, running cables, trenching cable (fibre, cat5e, cat6) underground/through manholes, operating large/heavy machinery (truck mounted cherry picker and genie booms), setting up mile long point to point links, Building site specific waterproof boxes with devices inside to be installed in stadiums across the country.

This roll also allowed me to work in environments I had never worked before such as, music and literacy festivals, job fairs and high up buildings/stadiums. Enabling me to work hours and shifts I did not work before such as on call hours. This work environment also helped me grow an understanding on how to effectively deal with customers across the board.

• I worked at Wayfair for ¾ of a year gaining multiple teamwork and leadership skills along my journey. Adapting to a new work environment was hard but I made lots of friends along the way. While I was at Wayfair I took on many tasks such as loading and unloading lorries and coordinating with my team to work as fast and efficiently as possible to help get orders out on time. I eventually took up the role of picker learning to drive a 3 tonne vehicle in just under 3 days which I succeeded in flawlessly with the highest score on the test the Leicester branch had ever seen. Sometimes people in charge of operations would fall ill and I would have to step up out of my comfort zone and take up a new role to help the team through the day. I had to have a radio to help organise the team and keep the processes in the warehouse run smoothly with little error as possible, Cultivated leadership and interpersonal skills to effectively address and prevent organisational challenges.

• I worked here for work experience for two weeks stepping into a formal office environment with lots of new people and new processes. Here i learned about lots of new CAD softwares and how to operate some of these softwares to understand how drainage, land and utility surveys are mapped out and analysed, this granted me a new understanding on how different surveys are carried out efficiently to help reduce any error that may occur when the projects start to get built in person. I quite enjoyed this job as I am very interested in maps and computer softwares and my geography and maths allowing me to draw an interest in the job. While I was there I gained lots of teamwork experience having to work in a small team of 4 to solve problems and alot of computer and software skills alongside.
