Clinical Experience

Acute Toxicity Unit, General ICU, Mansoura Emergency Hospital, Mansoura University, Egypt (May 2006 – June 2022):

  • Manage a wide range of acutely poisoned patients, including drug overdoses, adverse drug reactions, pesticide exposure, snake bites, and scorpion stings
  • Experienced in treating medication overdoses such as paracetamol, salicylates, antiepileptics, and cardiac drugs, and in managing accidental paediatric ingestions
  • Proficient in performing emergency procedures, including nasogastric tube (NGT) insertion, gastric lavage, administration of antidotes (e.g., N-acetylcysteine, activated charcoal, flumazenil, naloxone, atropine, pralidoxime), and arterial blood gas (ABG) collection and interpretation
  • Skilled in monitoring and stabilising critically ill patients within emergency and intensive care settings, working closely with ICU, anaesthesia, and psychiatry teams.
  • Led a clinical audit to improve compliance with updated guidelines for managing Neuroleptic Malignant Syndrome and Serotonin Syndrome, leading to enhanced protocol adherence and patient outcomes.
  • Regularly participate in multidisciplinary case discussions, clinical seminars, and updates on toxicology and emergency medicine management guidelines.
  • Provide teaching and bedside training to junior doctors and medical students on toxicology assessment, decontamination techniques, and acute emergency management.
