Primrose Hill Farm

Care Through The Mellenium
Birmingham, West Midlands
05.2015 - 10.2016

My job role at Primrose Hill Farm was a support worker.

During my time at Primrose my main responsibilities was to support young adults with severe learning difficulties and mental health illnesses, most of the service users was none verbal.

my duties was to support and encourage vulnerable young adults with everyday care always maintaining as much Independence as possible.i would support with their personal care and morning routine, clean bedrooms and change bedding daily as well as other parts of the house to ensure the service users had a clean and comfortable home.

I would plan and follow activities that was planned to meet the service users needs and likes in house and out in the community,

there was often extremely challenging behaviours at times where the service users would become overwhelmed and sometimes self harm during the meltdown.

myself and other team members would need to asses the situation and try to reassure and calm the service user keeping their safety our main priority, .remaining calm, patient understanding and compassionate in these challenging times is crucial to successfully help bring the service user out of the meltdown and to feel safe.

Other duties included daily documenting of moods, behaviours and activities and also taking care of finance, all incoming and out goings and photo coping receipts for all out goings .

Health care assistant

southern cross health care
Birmingham, West Midlands
03.2008 - 07.2009

The Nursing home i worked in was called Bramley Court,

my duties included complete personal care including toileting, feeding residents who was not able to do so themselves and supporting those that was always maintaining as much independence and dignity as possible . We would use a hoist and standing aids to move the residents that was not able to walk or just needed that extra support, check wheel chairs daily to ensure they was in good working order.bringing residents to the dining room, lounge and to activities if they wanted to join, meeting and greeting family and friends and answering any questions they may have had about their love ones.

Other duties included monitoring fluid and food intake , emptying catheter bags and documenting how much urine was in the bag and cleaning and changing colostomy bags. Observing the residents for changes in their behaviour, moods and general well being was the most important for me because these changes could indicate there is something more serious going on such as pain, boredom or a more serious illness such as dementia.

The nursing home also had a EMI unit which is for residents with dementia i would do shifts on the EMI unit which i really did enjoy it could be quite challenging at times but the duties was otherwise the same personal care ,feeding observing and reassuring to help the residents feel safe the well being of the resident always being the main priority.
