Retail Manager

Morrisons
Chippenham, Wiltshire
2009.01 - 2017.02

Whilst working for Morrisons for 8 years I worked both, part time and then full time, holding numerous roles from Sales Assistant to Section Manager.

I had begun my Store Management Training in the months prior to leaving the company.

Fresh Produce Manager. January 2016-February 2017

After some internal company problems involving other Managers, I was offered the highest and largest section managerial role. During this role I was made Union

Representative for all 100+ Staff. I had to this whilst maintaining my normal management role.

Stock Control and Systems Manager. January 2015-January 2016

After showing great commitment and ability within 6 months I was promoted to a new role within the company. This was a new company position, and I was 'handpicked' amongst the other managers as someone who could succeed in this diverse position which was unique to Food Supermarkets at the time. During this role I was selected to be the 'Your Say' representative who spoke to Area and Regional Managers directly on the store's progression.

Produce Manager. June 2014-January 2015.

I went from working one day a week, part time, to managing a section on a full time basis. Was chosen for the role without applying or an interview by the Store Manager as someone who not only could be a Section Manager but had the potential to progress to Store Manager Level.

Sales Assistant. January 2009-June 2014.

Working across various sections in both day and night shifts. I worked multiple shift patterns from 1-5 days depending on the company's needs.

Main Responsibilities Included.

  • Responsible for a team of 20+ employees operating day and night shifts. Managing a team, as well as myself which performed various store operations including opening and closing procedures, product display management and stock control, all within a set budget.
  • Managed sales floor regularly, assessing and improving daily operations to maximise availability and sales, whilst managing my teams to do the same thing.
  • Managed stock level and inventory by directing routine stock control procedures to maximise sales opportunities and reduce wastage of product.
  • Employed visual merchandising skills to create marketing opportunities across over 8000 products to give availability and quality for customers.
  • Optimised store performance through continuous evaluation of systems and operations. Then implementing the changing at a management level to help the store generate further profits and help my teams maximise their outputs.
  • Monitored and measured customer feedback to determine opportunities, company weaknesses and areas for company improvement and future success.
  • Monitored team development, setting performance objectives, and creating a positive atmosphere for continued growth. Providing constructive feedback to help the team maintain high standards and represent the company with enthusiasm,
  • Kept staff records regarding holidays, absences and discipline. As well as writing weekly rotas to ensure staffing levels were adequate and flexible in a fluid day as the stores opening hours were 6am-10pm, this was crucial.
  • Guaranteed high levels of customer satisfaction through extensive product knowledge and training. Also, observed competitor activity to match seasonal promotions. Resolved customer complaints professionally and timely to maintain positive store reputation and future purchases.
