My learning speed has to be very quick as I was given a lot of responsibility immediately with tasks I had no experience in, while using extremely expensive equipment.
The role involved assessing the current issues affecting the manufacturing system and searching for companies that can provide solutions. This required the planners to communicate effectively with the process team, ensuring the problem and solution was agreed on, then liaising with contractors to deliver the solution. This experience developed my understanding of the manufacturing industry but more importantly gave an insight into professional communication and negotiation. During this year I was selected to spend 2 months at the Rolls Royce plant in Goodwood where I participated in a robot installation project. This comprised quality checking body shells and then liaising with the robot contractors to ensure standards were met.
