- Part of the firm's Europe Business Acceptance team. Responsible for onboarding clients for legal matters being run out of the firm's Guernsey, Jersey, London and Dublin offices.
My duties include:
1. Advising fee-earners, legal secretaries and clients of the due diligence requirements for onboarding or refreshing due diligence, using tools such as Accuity and Orbis to inform this.
2. Advising our Jersey-based International Stock Exchange (TISE) team of the due diligence requirements for issuers seeking to list securities on TISE.
3. Monitoring the onboarding process and flagging any outstanding requirements or issues fee-earners and legal secretaries.
4. Consulting our policies and relevant regulations to answer compliance questions from fee-earners, legal secretaries and clients.
5. Reviewing third party payment requests.
6. Writing detailed client and matter risk assessments that identify and mitigate relevant risks.
7. Managing a large workload of allocated matters and prioritising these based on importance, urgency and expected timeframe for submission.
8. Managing the Europe team's email inbox on one day each week.
9. Providing guidance and training to new team members.
10. Ad hoc responsibilities, such as delivering presentations, researching regulations and liaising with the conflicts and financial crime teams where necessary.
Compliance Assistant

- Responsible for onboarding clients for legal matters involving BVI or Cayman Islands law.
- Responsible for onboarding clients for whom the BVI office or Cayman Islands office will act as Registered Office and Registered Agent.
My duties included:
1. Running conflict checks and World Checks on prospective clients, their key stakeholders and any adverse parties.
2. Advising clients, partners and other firm employees of the due diligence documents and information required for onboarding.
3. Monitoring the onboarding process and flagging any outstanding requirements or issues to clients or the firm's partners.
4. Maintaining compliance checklists and assessing client risk based on several risk factors.
5. Managing the ongoing monitoring of long-term clients through periodic compliance reviews.
6. Consulting policies and relevant regulations to answer compliance questions from the firm's partners, employees and clients.
7. Writing up memorandums on high-risk clients and setting out the ways in which risk has been mitigated.
8. Producing monthly compliance reports for the BVI office and monthly beneficial ownership reports for the Cayman Islands office.
9. Training a new Compliance Assistant in the firm's compliance policies and procedures.
10. Ad hoc responsibilities, such as assisting with AML reporting, proofreading legal documents, corporate administration and invoicing clients.
