Post qualification I took a position in the neurosciences department specifically on a stroke ward, looking after patients who has had a stroke this involved rehabilitation and also hyper acute stroke care post thrombolysis or patients undergoing thrombolysis
This was a very busy ward as most patient required all care and were very dependant on us to provide daily care due to being affected by the stroke
I built on my basic foundations of nursing, learnt about the most common medications used, In depth vital sign monitoring and identifying when patients require interventions

I carried out my management placement on a stroke ward, this prepared be to become confident and manage my own work load and take responsibility ensuring everything is done correctly
I was under supervision by my mentor but managing by own 4-6 patients on a daily basis from start to finish of a shift, attending MDT meetings and being involved in care plans and what being able to given my thoughts of what I think would be in the best interest for my patient

I carried out another placement in a hospital where I was placed on a surgical ward specialising in Oncology
I was looking after individuals Pre-Op and Post-Op which included getting them prepared for their surgery
Also, upon return from surgery keeping a close eye on individuals and repeating their observation every so often to monitor any changes
I also assisted patients with day to day tasks such as; feeding, personal care and giving them the support they required if they felt worried or anxious
This placement has helped me to enhance on my nursing skills and become more competent and confident in what I do
I have also been to theatres so see a surgery being performed and stayed with the patient through recovery and when they got back on the ward

I did 12 weeks of work placement in a hospital where I was based on a medical ward specialising in Endocrinology
I worked with adults with a wide age range of eighteen and onwards
I have dealt with many different things such as patients with mental health issues, individuals who require non-verbal communication and also patients that are immobile and require all care
I am aware of the basic foundations of nursing and very confident to carry out person centred care for individuals and adhere to any needs they might have such as washing, dressing, feeding and help with mobilising
