Having worked in my local butchers for the past 7 months, I have gained valuable experience of producing foods and dealing with customers in the food industry. I have learned how to check the dates of some products to make sure they are ok for human consumption and remove any products that are out of date. I have also learnt how to produce many products such as making sausages, burgers and kebabs etc and produce them to a high standard to provide high customer satisfaction by meeting safety standards. I have also been able to use my mathematic skills in the butcher industry as I convert (grams) to (lbs) to weigh the meat and provide the customer with their desired amount. Furthermore, to help gain a good corporate image, I provide customers with advice on how to cook their food if they aren't sure, this is essential in the food industry so that customers don't feel let down as they don't have a personal touch with the staff. I have also learnt how to minimize waste by accurate cutting and any waste that is produced is reported to my boss so he therefore knows why there might not be as much product for sale as he would like there to be.

From working in the construction industry I have realised the rapid increase in the price in fuel for the machinery due to external factors such as inflation and tax rising. I also learned how to drive machinery such as small and large roller, dumper and forklift and how to lift heavy products while meeting health and safety guidelines. In my experience I also gained the experience of carrying out hard manual labour and this shows my strong work ethic. My experience also led to me learning how to open the site and get all the machines ready by filling them with fuel and checking their oil and locking the site in the evening to keep all the machines safe.
