During my work history beginning when I was 13 on my paper round i gained determination as I was keen to earn my own money and be a good person as that is how I had been brought up.
I joined the RAF Air cadets around 2020 to which I am still a member, I learned to work in a team go out of my comfort zone by attending camps with strangers. I undertook so many courses and gained skills from radio communication to jet propulsion. Later in my I became the cadet in charge of the squadron at 17 alongside becoming a Lord Lieutenants cadet which allowed me to see how my hard work had paid off.
I had also been working in my summer job again working in a team with deadlines and consequences should orders not be met. Allowing me to see what a real workplace was like.
After leaving school a job at East port garage became available, this job allowed me to better my confidence in speaking with new people and handle problems on my own. I genuinely enjoyed this role as I was able to provide a service with results at the end of the day.
September 2025 I began my dream job of a police officer and undertook the 3 moths residential training. I grew here in many ways realising that life wasn't as I had it for many people. Further to this I was pushed academically with the coursework, I decided to do it with friends and not alone to boost morale. I passed out of the Police Collage with an 81% final grade.
Having been deployed in active police service since December 2025, I have changed as a person. I am now aware that a situation may not be as it appears and demands deeper digging or a gentle prod to say "its ok" should someone not want to tell us something.
I gained the teamworking skills collating a large case among 3 to 4 officers that is still ongoing where everyone done their part and I wasn't afraid to ask for help as being idle is worse than getting help.
I struggled with the workload and the lack of satisfaction leaving incidents sometimes no better than how we found them.
I improved on my workload however began to see myself fading along with this and not happy with who I am and ass a result realised i still want to help people, I just want to see that they are actually getting help they need.
I am the lord lieutenants cadet for fife for the year 24/25 which means i am the aide and representative of the cadet forces to the British royal family and the Lord-lieutenant in Fife.
It allows me to meet lots of different people in Fife and get to know how different things work as well as gain skills to talk to many people.
In the Cadets I have also become a Flight Sergeant where i now teach younger Cadets subjects like Radio communications to Flying operations.
I also help to lead and manage Cadets and Senior Non commissioned officers (NCOs ) at events and in our squadron to get the best outcomes for them . I have gained many skills from this like communication from getting the staffs requests then passing it on to the NCOs to actually carry them out. As well as getting a better understanding of the bigger picture everything has and how it can slow things down behind the scenes for different people or situations and how to work around it to keep things moving.
I attended 999 calls ranging from mental health crises in which I communicated effectively with people in crisis on one occasion over the phone. During the call the person had made concerning comments and was against police attendance I gained trust of the person and she stated her location. We were able to safely return her home in care of partner agencies.
The role also includes attending a range of callouts from the public ranging from serious assaults that require full in depth investigations down to minor shopliftings. Both situations require a the same amount of evidence and quality of reports sent to the courts to ensure that both evidence that proves guilt and excludes guilt are captured.
I also note statements from victims and witnesses that can be challenging due to having to recall their traumatic experiences in great detail. This has led me to be able to offer short breaks or words of encouragement during these hard conversations that can delve deep into their past.
Within the job there has been opportunities to attend football matches where I have engaged with the public attending. Due to being younger I was approached by younger fans who were able to come over to me due to our commonality in age and use it as an opportunity for themselves to find out why police attend matches and ask questions.
The role includes so much more from Road traffic collisions, being there for people who need support with children and searching for missing people.
