Summary

I am a highly motivated and proactive member of the Course Maintenance Department at Loch Lomond Golf Club, currently undertaking a Golf Course Management Diploma through SRUC Elmwood. This academic pursuit complements my practical experience and reflects my ongoing commitment to professional development within the greenkeeping industry.

Before joining the golf course maintenance team, I earned a Higher National Diploma (HND) in Environmental Management and Sustainability at the Scottish Agricultural College. This strategic educational choice allowed me to gain a strong understanding of the Scottish landscape and its environmental challenges, laying a solid foundation for a career in high-level sports turf management.

My goal is to become an innovative and forward-thinking leader in the greenkeeping profession, with a strong emphasis on continuous learning and collaboration. I am particularly interested in expanding my knowledge of international best practices in turf management and applying them to deliver world-class playing conditions.

With a strong foundation in environmental principles, a growing leadership skill set, and a willingness to learn from every opportunity, I am well-prepared to make a lasting contribution to the future of golf course management.

Work history

Senior Greenkeeper

Loch Lomond Golf Club
01.2022 - 07.2025
  • After a short while at The Vale of Leven there was an opportunity from me to return to Loch Lomond in an increased role as a Senior Greenkeeper, this chance to put into practice things id learned at Loch Lomond and The Vale was invaluable.
  • I quickly reintegrated into the crew of around 20 and being taking more responsibility when managing projects around the course and when the ’22 season began I was more involved in the implementation of the fertility programme, being the lead spraying operator, a role in which I am keen to be more involved in going forward.

Deputy Course Manager

The Vale of Leven
08.2021 - 01.2022
  • After 10 years at Loch Lomond I took the jump to course management, at The Vale, it was a smaller stature of club but I felt it was a good move for me to find my feet in course management.
  • I was part of a team of 5 which included the Course Manager, myself, 1 Qualified greenkeeper and a part time greenkeeper as well as 2 volunteers from the membership.
  • On a day to day basis I had to engage with the committee and carry out tasks on the golf course, I was part of the rebuilding of the 1st Green carrying on the experience I had gained being part of the rebuild at Loch Lomond.

Greenkeeper

Loch Lomond Golf Club
04.2012 - 08.2021
  • While still in full time education in Edinburgh, I applied for the position at Loch Lomond as the next step in my development. Upon getting the position I was still at college and worked 4 days, while preparing for exams and final reports.
  • Over my first three seasons, I began to understand the science involved in the industry, whilst gaining experience on a wide range of machinery. I now have the confidence to carry out any operation on the Golf course on my own or as part of a team.
  • Since becoming an established and senior member of the team at Loch Lomond, I have seen my confidence increase further as well as my knowledge and practical ability. My role involves training golf course staff and guiding contractors to carry out construction works around the golf course.
