During my early years in Sunday school, I learnt about the love of God for me and for all human beings, seeing in the Bible that humans are the chief of all His creation. "Jesus loves the little children of the world - red or yellow, black or white - they are precious in His sight" is a song that helped to embed the Biblical teaching of God's love for all. The Christian community in which I lived was founded on the Bible, thus this book has been
foundational in my fundamental values.
In later years, as I sought a career, I tried many arenas in the hope of 'happiness'. I have worked in sales, accounts, administration, catering etc.
However, the area of work I have repeatedly returned to is in the care industry. Whether it is volunteering at mothers and toddlers' group, working as
a carer for the elderly, or as a Support worker to young adults with learning disabilities and behaviour that challenges, I have boomeranged to that
foundational value taught in the Bible: care for people. It is this same core belief that now leads me to pursue a career in mental health.
Now in the last four years as mental health nursing student, I have gained knowledge that has equipped me to help those who struggle with mental
health, their loved ones, and the community to which they belong. The first code of the NMC Code for professional standards of practice and
behaviour for nurses, midwifes and nursing associates affirms the prioritising of people, treating them with kindness and compassion (NMC, 2021).
Genesis 1:26-28 and Psalm 8:4-8 talk about how people are formed in the likeness of God, and how everyone is precious to Him. The sanctity of life,
as taught in the Bible, informs and encourages the desire to care, support, restore and preserve it. Moreover, as part of a multidisciplinary team, my
contribution may not only aid the preservation and restoration of the individual patient, but the lives of many people.
During my training I have acquired skills on critical approach to assessment, evaluation, and psychotropic medication knowledge. Show strong
