The functions I carry out as the Lead Member for Children's Services include;
Responsibility for children and young people receiving education or children’s social care services in their area and all children looked after by the local authority or in custody (regardless of where they are placed).
Using information and briefings to guide my decision making, which I enhance by listening to children and young people, families and carers, and by direct observation and visits to services.
As the Lead Member for Children's Services I have a responsibility to:
1) Act as effective and caring corporate parent for looked after children
2) Ensure access to high quality provision for disabled children and those with Special Educational Needs
3) Provide alternative provision for children outside of mainstream provision
4) Plan between agencies providing services for children involved in the youth justice system as well as to understand local need and secure the provision of services for children and young people.
