The functions I carry out as the Lead Member for Children's Services include;

Responsibility for children and young people receiving education or children’s social care services in their area and all children looked after by the local authority or in custody (regardless of where they are placed).

Using information and briefings to guide my decision making, which I enhance by listening to children and young people, families and carers, and by direct observation and visits to services.

As the Lead Member for Children's Services I have a responsibility to:

1) Act as effective and caring corporate parent for looked after children

2) Ensure access to high quality provision for disabled children and those with Special Educational Needs

3) Provide alternative provision for children outside of mainstream provision

4) Plan between agencies providing services for children involved in the youth justice system as well as to understand local need and secure the provision of services for children and young people.

In this role I am;

• closely involved in strategic policy matters

• know about performance, quality assurance and efficiency

• able to judge the overall effectiveness of commissioning arrangements

• visible to service users and staff, listening to children, young people, parents and carers in order to identify gaps in service or service improvements.

• Successfully delivered on tasks within tight deadlines.

As a county councillor you are the conduit between residents and the local authority.

In this role I:

• Monitored current and proposed legislation and policy priorities.
• Attended meetings to discuss core policy issues and legislative plans.

• RE is the only part of the curriculum that is locally agreed and written
• Part of my role was to promote RE and the Hampshire agreed syllabus
• I was asked along with officers to deliver workshops at conferences in the acknowledgement of how highly thought of Hampshire RE was and is.

• Working in the retail sector sales manager and product buyer for family business across the South of England working with various outlets and clients.

• Managed a small team of staff making sure we delivered excellent customer service
• I had the responsibility of working out rotas, running reports, HR issues within my team
• Provide some staff training and look at introducing new ways of working.
