Tasked with conducting routine engineering rounds, checking temperatures and pressures, and carrying out preventative maintenance. This involved working on a diverse array of systems, including generators, propulsion systems, water desalination plants, and sewage treatment plants.
Fulfilled watchkeeping duties when required, reporting to the on watch engineering officer, ensuring smooth operation of the vessel during any 24 hour period. This was 4 hours on and 8 hours off whilst at sea and 6 hours on and 12 hours off whilst anchored alongside.
Later in my career I was lucky enough to be selected to attend the Engineering Technician course. This involved achieving a number of further qualifications with training taking place at college and at sea.
