Summary

Enthusiastic and motivated Graduate with a BA in English Literature, with 2:1 honors. I have a strong foundational understanding of literature and communication and excel at gaining and retaining new skills. Additionally, I have several months of experience working at a charity retail popup, which exercised my skills in communication both with customers and within a team. I spent my last year of university working part-time as a cleaner for J.D. Wetherspoons. During this time I came to understand the value of working hard and fast within short time frames and how to work well with and thrive in a team environment. I found the most important skill I learned during my time as a cleaner was how to find fun and satisfaction in the process of working itself. No matter the task I have learned to find enjoyment in the very act of working itself. I hope to further hone my skills and develop new ones as I pursue my love for literature in the workplace.

Work history

Cleaner

J.D Wetherspoon
Falmouth, Cornwall
02.2022 - 04.2023

I worked part-time as a cleaner at J.D Wetherspoons for a year. During this time I had to work as part of a team of 3-5 in order to clean the entire space within 2 hours. Working in this environment forced me to quickly learn how to maximize my efficiency within short time frames as well as the importance of delegating tasks within a group. Given the friendly and tight-knit nature of the group I also learnt the importance of friendliness and rapport within the workplace and how to ask for and offer assistance to my co-workers without impeding my own work or the work of others. Working in this position also taught me that no matter how menial or repetitive a job may seem there is always a way to find value and joy in the act of working itself and with the right mindset, any job can bring enjoyment and satisfaction.

Volunteer work in a charity pop‑up. Being one of only two volunteers working within the pop‑up I was able to gain experience in task management, communication, customer service as well as resource management, and not only following but understanding instructions given. I also gained minor experience in accounting given the need for me to keep track of finances during my shifts.
