Geophysics Dissertation Details

BSc dissertation – Geophysical Imaging of Abandoned Shallow Coal Mines 2025–2026. Using a large GPR dataset to investigate shallow coastal mine workings near Whitley Bay. Processing and interpreting radar data to assess uncertain subsurface features, including disturbed reflectors, diffractions, attenuation and chaotic zones. Linking the project to wider research into abandoned mine systems and possible geothermal mine-water heat extraction. Writing the project as a scientific dissertation, with emphasis on method, uncertainty, limitations and interpretation.
