I am a hardworking and enthusiastic final year student at the University of Birmingham working towards a BSc in Sport, Physical Education and Coaching Sciences. I am passionate about working with young people and have a variety of work experience particularly in music and sport. I am a committed individual with a good work ethic who can work flexibly and can adapt to new challenges. I have strong morals and am extremely passionate about helping others. I am confident in the skills I have and believe in life long learning; I am proactive in developing myself further with new experiences and actively engage with all opportunities.
I am currently doing a placement 1/2 days per week in a school for pupils with special educational needs and disabilities. I assist/lead a variety of music and PE, developing my adaptability skills and knowledge of SEND requirements. I am also carrying out a research project within the PE department looking at improving motor ability of pupils.
I work to provide a safe enjoyable environment for primary aged children throughout the school holidays to learn a variety of different sporting and craft skills whilst catering for a diverse range of needs and access requirements. This role has further enhanced my safeguarding and first aid knowledge giving my real life application in addition to my qualifications.
I work with young people interested in folk music, teaching music and techniques, creating a safe space to be creative and explore music whilst catering for a range of diverse needs. I have worked at a variety of folk experience days.
I have taught a range of private violin and fiddle pupils both in person and online. Teaching both classical and folk to a variety of ages and abilities whilst maintaining a safe and positive learning environment for students to comfortably ask questions and develop as a musician. This has helped me develop range of teaching styles, inclusive practice skills and communication skills.
I taught one to one classical violin lessons to primary aged pupils. I co-lead two string ensembles of ranging abilities playing a variety of repertoire, encouraging students to have fun and develop their own musical style in a safe and inclusive learning environment.
In August, I had the role of trainee tutor on the folkworks summer school (aged 9-18). I lead sectional rehearsals and assisted in a variety of workshops. This helped me to develop my teaching pedagogy, music education skills including my adaptability to a range of abilities.
University Music
I am a first violinist in the university philharmonic orchestra and the string orchestra. I am also a member of the folk ensemble and jazz collective. I am secretary of the folk society and an active member of the jazz, funk soul society.
Ceoil Le Chéile
I have recently been offered a place as a fiddle player in 'Ceoil Le Chéile' - an orchestra performing a selection of trad pieces, exploring musicianship and arranging techniques to create a neo-trad suite of music. This is an opportunity I am excited about and is sure to further develop my performance and musicianship skills.
Ethno Sweden
In the summer of 2023, I participated in a folk music camp for people aged 18-30 from across the world. It was a great experience involving sharing lots of music and different cultures. I was asked to go on tour in October alongside four other people from the summer as part of "Ethno on the Road" and spent three weeks travelling, doing concerts, teaching workshops in schools and playing at festivals.
National Youth Folk Ensemble
I was part of the national youth folk ensemble for four years, learning music, composing, playing concerts and festivals and taking part in workshops with other like minded young people from across the country.
Growing up I was involved in a vast range of folk and classical music which enhanced my music skills, developed my love of music and initiated my ever-growing passion for inclusive music opportunities and pedagogy.
I am a keen athlete and am captain of the women's 2's basketball team this has helped me to develop my leadership skills. Additionally, I am well-being officer of the club which has helped me to develop my interpersonal skills and safeguarding knowledge.
