I started my current job at Poundland in late 2018. In the seven years that I have spent in my current role, I've been able to further develop my confidence by showcasing my skills in leadership, teamwork, and reliability. During my time with Poundland, I have been promoted twice since joining, with a short time between promotions. Starting as a sales assistant, I proved my strong capabilities in handling stressful situations, high-intensity work environments, and completing assigned tasks.
This led to my promotion to supervisor and, not long after, assistant manager. In my role, I have showcased my capabilities and strengths in leading a team, handling the closing and opening of my store, and managing cash.
Along with all the physical aspects of my role, I have been commended by various higher management for efficiently handling paperwork, technical tasks via various Microsoft programs, contacting different departments to arrange collections of inventory, and ensuring any processes in my store were handled as seamlessly as possible. Overall, I believe myself to be a hard-working, strong leader and a reliable asset to my current job and any future company I may join.
I worked at McDonald's for almost three years straight out of secondary school. I worked part-time while attending Glasgow City College to earn income for my course, gain life skills, and adapt to a work-life balance.
In the years I spent at McDonald's, I learned to have patience in a high-intensity environment, as you deal with various types of personalities in fast food. Along with learning to have patience, I was able to develop better listening skills and retain information. In my early years, when first starting this job, you are made to be quick on your feet, learn the ins and outs of machinery in the kitchen, as well as working the register and maintaining a clean and accurate stockroom.
Even though my time with the company was short, as I wanted to pursue other means of work, McDonald's helped me develop my people skills, working in a team with other staff members, as well as working with the general public in order to keep our workload mainstream with as few bumps along the way as possible.
