Work history

Head of Faculty for Humanities

Cobham Hall School for Girls
01.2024 - Current
  • Responsibilities include co-ordinating the five departments within the faculty to ensure the highest possible standards of teaching and learning in relation to a set of agreed goals outlined in the school development plan
  • This entails working with various stakeholders besides the leaders of each department including the senior leadership team, the admissions team and the Mill Hill Foundation itself
  • Event planning is key to this role as curriculum enrichment is one of the central ways in which the school promotes the ideas of internationalism, democracy, leadership, service and environmentalism
  • Teaching the history of the Middle East, 1918-2011 to a year 11 iGCSE class has been challenging however, teaching this course against the backdrop of the situation in Gaza has enabled certain points to come into sharp focus and provided excellent learning opportunities.

History and Politics Teacher

  • Responsible for the planning, and delivery of history and politics lessons across key stages 3, 4 and 5 in a truly multi-cultural and international setting
  • Teaching history in the Middle East provided many challenges including working within a set of political restrictions to deliver the iGCSE course on the history of international relations that covers the UN partition plan, relations between Israel and the Arab states.

Lead Practitioner of History

Meridian High School

  • Played a vital role as Head of History in improving the A-Level results from the previous year where the department moved up from being in the bottom 60% in the country to the top 30%
  • Performance in the first year of the new GCSE also saw the department perform in the top 25% of schools across the country
  • Responsible for overseeing a sizeable budget to ensure money was effectively spent to improve overall performance
  • Experience of writing departmental development plans to ensure the department were in line with the overall school development plan
  • This included internalising the findings from exam reports, communicating this with SLT and feeding it forward to enhance departmental performance in the following academic year.

Teacher of History and Politics

Langley Park School for Boys
01.2007 - 01.2020
  • Went straight into Langley in my first full teaching year where I thrived under the pressure of delivering the A-Level Politics course and GCSE History to students already halfway through their studies
  • This was all amongst the backdrop of losing my brother in the same year so the whole experience forged in me a degree of mental toughness and resilience which meant that I could see out the most difficult and challenging year of my life successfully
  • Building on that, I delivered results in the classroom and gained outstanding ratings for my lessons from senior leadership observations throughout my teaching career to being rated by Ofsted as outstanding in 2014.

Head of Government & Politics

Langley Park School for Boys
01.2014 - 01.2017
  • Organised and ran a mock general election for our 600 strong sixth form and hosted a hustings event for the upper sixth
  • Significant numbers from the upper sixth registered to vote and took part in the subsequent general election despite being in an affluent area that has a significant degree of voter apathy amongst the 18-25 demographic
  • In its first full year under my guidance, the department became the joint best performing department in the school giving greater value added compared to all other departments.

Lead Subject Mentor PGCE History

Langley Park School for Boys
01.2009 - 01.2016
  • Required detailed knowledge of the current teaching standards, as well as working alongside various stakeholders such as the training provider and the head of teacher training at the school
  • Every student mentored went on to obtain teaching posts at high performing schools
  • Essentially, allowed me to engage in my passion for learning History whilst allowing the opportunity to work and cultivate an understanding of the processes of learning alongside other education professionals from the University sector.
