My current role is at Harrelli we have worked across multiple contracts with this employer however the majority of the work is between BRSK (now Netomnia) and GRAIN, when we started Harrelli we was on a self employed basis but after a year of continuous work Harrelli accepted our proposal of going on the books PAYE, our days vary depending on the contract we are on.

My time at Northern involved me working on the BT network on behalf of our client OCU in Leeds, Bradford and surrounding areas, some of my activities involved.

My day to day activities include-

  • Setting up sites in accordance with NRSWA standards
  • Track excavation work using heavy plant
  • Active Cab installations for multiple Clients each requiring different specifications which I aim to meet
  • Core drilling underground chambers- safely and effectively enabling network links and the installation of footway chambers.

This current role does occasionally require working away and/or in Remote locations with the added requirement of working weekends due to permit conditions.

My career at Zzoomm saw me returning to the field of Civils in the form of Fiber installations, This involved

  • Track work with an Excavator
  • Installation of Toby's (point of termination)
  • Installation of Street cabinets and laying subduct before it was then backfilled and reinstated

This was all completed under a safe working environment adhering to the team created risk assessment, safe dig drawings and frequent use of CAT equipment.

  • Work as part of a two man team unsupervised and trusted to carry out works required.
  • Key worker throughout COVID-19.
  • Set up sites on live highways following RASWA guidelines.
  • Locate existing services using cable avoidance tools (CAT & GENNY) to avoid utility strikes prior to digging.
  • Ensure all utility drawings, dig plans and permits are checked thoroughly before every job.
  • Excavate in highway using 1.5 ton machine and often by hand when unsuitable to use excavator.
  • Installation of duct for Fiber optic road crossings.
  • Traditional trenching using excavator in footpath and cabling to literals.
  • When tasks are completed I then work alongside other teams preparing tarmac for backfill & reinstatement and the construction of footway boxes, this helps keep all teams moving in the right direction.
  • Actively complete overtime, weekends and evenings when permits advise that the work needs to be completed out of hours.

  • This was a very physical role often in harsh weather conditions.
