In this report I behaved as an energy consultant and I have been asked to provide a full assessment for a case study scenario to work on. The scenario involved a stakeholder who is interested in developing a sustainable energy system. I identified the building fabric/construction (wall, floor, ceiling, roof, partition, glazing) and current condition/issues of the building. I did assessment of the heating, ventilation, lighting systems. I assessed the building location and external shading/buildings around. I did some analysis for energy and thermal performance of the building such as energy benchmarks/building regulations. I did carbon assessment of the building. I gave some recommendations to improve the energy performance and thermal condition of the building. I did calculation on the recommended low carbon and clean technologies in term of the system size, saving and payback period. This was the main factor in determining the thesis topic of my study. The work I have done has given me knowledge in this field, increased my self-confidence and improved my problem-solving skills. I got first class grade from this report.
In this assignment I developed of a finite element model for a three storied laboratory shear frame. The structure is supported by aluminium bars fixed at four corners of each floor. I used Abaqus finite elements analysis software programme for completing Linear buckling analysis, Nonlinear static analysis and I did conclusions and future recommendations. This report enabled me to learn the finite element program and increased my knowledge and experience in finite element analysis. I have got first class grade from this report.
In this preliminary design report I made in the sustainable infrastructure course, I designed a concrete wastewater chlorination tank reinforced with CFRP bars and made of material containing self-healing bacteria. This wastewater chlorination tank was designed using Bacteria-based Self-healing Material to eliminate cracks that occur over time and provide less maintenance and repair costs. The water tank was designed for the Festival Garden District housing project in Liverpool and has a capacity to meet the wastewater needs of approximately 8000 households. I compared my design with other options available, I explained why the technology/strategy chosen is more sustainable based on the sustainability criteria. This work provided me to develop my skills at literature review and critical evaluation, as well as developing my understanding of recent developments in sustainable infrastructure. I have got first class grade from this preliminary design report.
