The Africa operation (registered as Matrix Resources and Metallurgical Ltd) is a mining project focused on discovering and mining copper and lithium deposits on the Pan African greenstone belt. Responsibilities as a technician includes:
• Supervising technicians to perform various forms of sampling activities for grade control and near-pit exploration
• Geochemical analysis response interpretation involving elemental ratio analysis for pegmatite vein classification and source-magma characterization
• Resource delineation and 3D modelling using Datamine, Surpac and Leapfrog
• Ensure proper positioning and labelling of sampling pegs for easy after drill pick-ups by survey or ore spotting
• Supervised drill site maintenance, drainage planning, fencing, and sump citing during reserve conversion drilling
Project Details: I was an integral team member of the grade control, resource modelling, ore reserve estimates, mine grade control/reconciliation, etc. of Thor Exploration's Segilola gold mine in Osun state, Nigeria. I was part of the mine planning & development team to the eventual mining stage where I worked as a grade control technician / geologist.
My responsibilities at the role were:
• Responsible for all in-pit grade control process and samplers
• Performed detailed geological, geotechnical, lithological logging to update pit maps
• Developed ore grade control plans using all available data (drill data, resource models, GC data)
• Estimation and block modelling of GC model for short- and long-term planning.
• Ensured correct sample bag numbering for accurate OC dig block grade estimations
• Supervised Ore mining activities to geological standards through maximizing ore recovery and minimizing ore dilution.
• ROM management, stockpiling and ore blending to deliver the required feed grade to mill.
• Blast monitoring and transformation using BMT balls.
• Assisted in the capturing of all geological field data (core drilling, RC drilling, blasthole, density, grab samples, mapping, moisture content etc.)
• Undertook in pit geological mapping, pit face, high-wall and floors lithology and structural mapping and interpretation.
• Ensured high compliance to safety standards for subordinates, colleagues, and contractors.
• Planned and coordinated ARD samples data collection and Modelling of PAF areas for selective stockpiling.
• Planned, coordinated and set weekly and daily plans to direct and guide teams on priorities and targets.
• Attend daily, weekly, and monthly production meetings to liaise between the geology, survey, and the mining engineering departments for effective work coordination.
• Weekly and monthly report writing to superiors for planning ahead.
• Channel blast movement designs data processing for presentation and review by the Chief Mine Geologist
• General supervision of daily ore mining and ensure mining protocols are observed upholding geological standards
• Supervised and supported others in carrying out activities according to the company’s Environmental, Health and Safety principles.
Project Details: A World Bank financed project in partnership with the Government of Ghana to explore and delineate economically viable near-surface gold deposit for exploitation by the artisanal and small-scale mining industry of Ghana. 50,000 Oz of gold reserve was delineated under this project using conventional exploration methods in combination with the AI predictive software; ADVANGEO, developed by Beak Consultants. Core Duties
• Planning and executing surface geochemical sampling including stream-sediment sampling, pitting and trenching
• Using Advangeo AI Technology to delineate prospective areas for detailed exploration
• Planning and executing auger, RC & core drilling programs to investigate delineated targets
• Inserting and recording QAQC samples and reporting on control samples performance after analysis
• Provided hands-on assistance during operations activities and ensuring that safe work practices are followed
• Legacy data reformation, ground truthing and gold resource modelling
A Greenfield exploration project on the Bibiani greenstone gold belt of Ghana, next door to Newmont’s Ahafo North gold mine. I made 490,000 Oz of gold resource (indicated and inferred) discovery on the property following 2-years of field exploration and promptly offering shareholders of the Canadian junior gold company, a good return on their investment.
