Riccardo Giuntini

I have 27 years' experience as a Physician and have been working in the NHS since I moved to the UK from Italy in 2008

All my working posts have been hospital-based and focused both on Infectious Diseases and General Internal Medicine. I consolidated my skills at consultant level over the last 12 years, and currently hold a permanent position in the Infectious Diseases Department at St James’s University Hospital in Leeds

I have comprehensive experience in direct clinical care of complex patients with multiple co-morbidities, HIV- related illnesses and other infection presentations, including fevers of unknown origin, fever in the returning traveller, bacteraemia and its complications, tuberculosis, community-acquired infections

I am co-lead for Clinical Governance in my Department, and am responsible for the investigation of clinical incidents, the management of complex deaths including Coroner referral, statements for Coroner’s inquests and finally I facilitate monthly discussion of deaths occurring under the care of my team through Structured Judgement Review sessions

Although new to formal expert witness practice, I have extensive experience in objective clinical assessment, comprehensive review of complex medical records, preparation of detailed clinical documentation, and communicating complex medical issues clearly to healthcare professionals, patients, and multidisciplinary teams

I have so far attended to Bond Solon’s Report Writing for Expert Witness Course in July 2025

• Case-based teaching on weekly sessions to junior doctors
• Lectures on regional teaching days to Foundation doctors, Core Medical Trainees and medical registrars
• Lectures to medical students on Infectious Diseases topics as part of their academic programme
• OSCE examiner for Medical School - fourth and fifth year

• My research activity was limited to my training in Italy and to the first few years in the UK, up to 2010
• It comprises of 26 abstracts (author of 6 of them) presented to national and international conferences and 7 peer reviewed publications (first author of 2), most of them related to HIV infection and antiretroviral therapy
