I am a Matron within the Medicine Division, my areas care for Healthcare of the Older Person. As a healthcare professional it is vital that I show evidence of ongoing professional development. This occurs on a daily basis as I use the challenges faced to enhance my development. I believe that development is vital for any role and welcome these opportunities. Within the Matron role there is be many development opportunities which I am grateful of with the guidance and support of the Senior team.
I managed a small team of registered nurses and healthcare assistants on a Haematology Ward. It is essential that I managed the team accordingly so they meet the needs of the patients whilst adhering to the trust core values.
I was a Deputy Ward Manager on the Gastroenterology and Endocrine Ward and was been in post since October 2021. Prior to this post I was a Clinical Sister on the Ward from 01/2021. Whilst ensuring all the team is cared for and managed appropriately it is of utmost importance that I prioritise effectively and care for patients and staff appropriately at all times. It is very important that I am aware of any concerns/issues so I can support the team and act accordingly for the patient and staff. I work alongside a variety of healthcare professionals whilst offering support to the team. I am in charge on the ward and take a team of patients whilst co-ordinating at all times during the shift. I feel that I am approachable and supportive, staff are happy to speak to myself regarding issues on the ward, they seek advice from myself whether it be regarding a patient or difficulty they are having regarding the caring team for the patient.
I was a band 5 Staff Nurse for 5 years. In this post, I worked alongside hospice care professional's, the diabetes team, the tissue viability nurse and infection control on a daily basis. The care of diabetes closely interlinked with tissue viability, wound management and health promotion is an essential part of diabetes which people often dismiss. The ward also specialises in haematology, this experience has taught me that palliative care and treatment options can be varied in which nurses are an essential team member for the patient and family members as they feel able to confide in myself so that I can liase with appropriate professionals to signpost them to the relevant services. I completed venepuncture and cannulation, and I am confident in the care of PICC and Hickman lines alongside completing the relevant documentation, as well as administering chemotherapy. I have been in charge during my current post whilst managing the emergency bleep. Whilst being in this post I also had secondment opportunities as band 6 on the winter wards.
