Work history

Miller’s Ark Farm
  • I have also volunteered at Miller’s Ark Farm to gain some valuable work experience with farm animals. Tasks I undertook included taking care of the goats, keeping them in their pens during visiting hours, moving hay bales, and watering the rest of the animals. This shows I am dedicated to my passion as this is demanding and rewarding work. Also, I had to interact with public by informing them about the animals and answering with any questions they had showing I am able to interact with the public.
  • I have a week’s worth of work experience in a local veterinary practice where I was able to see surgeries, consultations, and talk to surgeons and nurses. Whilst in the presence of customers and staff I had to maintain professionalism by being courteous and confidential.
  • I have cared for 3 degus in their home whilst the owner was on holiday. This meant that I was responsible for replenishing the food and water, making sure that the degus were had their daily exercise and cleaning them out. I have done this for the past three years. This shows how I am a reliable and responsible person.
  • I have two weeks of work experience on farms, one week working on an alpaca farm and the other on a petting farm. At the alpaca farm I had clean the alpacas’ pens and fields every day, I restrained them whilst they were given injections and helped breed them. Also, I harnessed the alpacas so they could go on walks with the public. On the petting farm I had to interact with the public every day. My tasks included cleaning enclosures, feeding the animals, and helping to

Projects Abroad
  • I have travelled to the Galápagos islands with Projects Abroad and worked for 2 weeks, during this time I gained many skills, including conducting surveys such as group scans and ethograms, how to feed and care for tortoises that needed help and how to help conserve the environment to better the world.

  • In university so far, I have learned how to conduct instantaneous, continuous, group scan, and individual surveys and how to use R Studio to conduct statistical tests and to produce graphs and tables. Also, I have conducted multiple experiments in labs that give me a wide variety of transferrable skills such as being precise and accurate to ensure the best results.
  • I have previously worked in a café where I went from just bringing customers their orders to working behind the coffee counter. I would have to interact with customers, taking their orders and making sure they were satisfied. This again shows how I am able to adapt to different scenarios.
